Z650 1000J HEAD? OR WHAT?

#1 PostAuthor: KWACKERZ1 » Fri Jul 12, 2013 9:12 am

This 650 at Spa was as fast as anything and we could not quite figure out what head it has fitted,
IS it a 1000j head? the barrells are 750 barrells but the head looks to big?
Anybody come across this conversions before ,

I dont think it is "simple gpz swap" A good bike tuner done a conversion to one of my old Z650 , he used 750 barrels and kept the B1 head ,but there was some bits that had to be machined up (made) to do with the standard 650 cam chain and the later hyvo cam chain , i could find out ? but that bike after it was done was very quick ,it used to keep revving and revving ,! and beat a Kantana 1100 flat out  and it was 100% reliable ......

B1'S Used roller chains and gpz's i believe hyvo ones. Later 650's used hyvo chains to.
So mixing and matching would cause issues.

Yer , i know it was to do with the cam chain , i think it was a small jockey wheel had to be swapped, added, in the top of the barrel ?? but that was over 20 years ago ! so all a bit vauge really.
But i could find out if anyone wants to know ?

GPZ head drops straight on any later hyvo equipped 650 motor.
Use of the earlier roller crank requires idler conversion.
