Charging fault

Have a Z900a4,not charging,ggrr!! changed rectifier with a updated one from zpower,new windings again zpower,new battery and still not charging correctly.when out will run for several hours the start to miss over 7thou rpm,turn off lights and off we go!! any ideas please.

See what you you have coming out of alternator first across the 3 yellows you should have around 50 volts ac,if you have that put your meter on dc volts at around 3 k revs you should have 14.6 volts dc across battery terminals, if you dont suspect regulator or rectifier its much better to fit combined reg rect unit,on rare occasions the rotor can be de magnetised but unlikely...Paul J

Also check the voltage coming out of the 3 yellow wires from the alternator
Should be about 6v from each

If not you might have a winding gone

My Z1b did exactly the same .. replaced the 20amp fuse now runs perfectly.

Don't mention the dreaded 20 A Fuse. I have just replaced my battery with a MotoBatt as I am tired of buying new batteries every 2 years and also on the Rickman it is a major job to get the battery out.

tried to start the bike and blew up the starter relay but after a bit of looking about found the fuse box hot on the 20A fuse. I thought it would be OK but the bike decided to stop last night at about 11 o'clock. The 20A fuse had blown !!

I was thinking about actually cutting out the fuse box and replacing with either normal or mini blade fuses !!

i had charging probs like this.turned out to be intermitant conection in the white connector bloks.changed connectors now sorted

replace 20amp fuse with 20amp mcb.no more problems.if it does blow just reset as meany times as you need till you fined fault.

slightly off topic but what type mcb are you using zman

maplins do some auto reset breakers
might be useful for something

the white bike belonged to a guy who was saying he bought the bike for Â£50 from a scrapyard and restored it. I think he just bought one part for Â£50 !!
