not a z but need advice

#1 PostAuthor: wayno » Fri Sep 14, 2012 11:12 pm

The battery on my xt500 is not charging, only getting 1,5v at the battery with engine running. I assume the reg and rect are ok as they are recently fitted within the last year so I think the lighting coil is at fault. If I put a meter on the yellow wire I get continuity to ground, same reading with the 4 wires in the plug. I need to know before trying to ' the flywheel off and sending it for rewinding. Useless with electrics so need help please

none of the coils should go to ground. make sure you have a live + a (switched live when ignition is on) from the regulator

Switched live serms ok, took the stator plate off today and it ha been rewound before and badly at that.very poor splice behind the plate from the lighting coil. I have spoken to a guy in Devon who can rewind it for £30. Is there any club member offering this service?

Got the coil back and now got 8.2v st the battery, is that ok or too much for a 6v system?

sounds about right, 6v and 12v are nominal values eg 12v charging systems are usually 13.8v
