VALVE TIMMING

#1 PostAuthor: zman » Sun Apr 01, 2012 3:26 pm

I will soon be doing my valve timming.Ive read that this needs to be done on the compresion stroke.[which i will]
But i have a qwestion?before you set the cams surly as long as the piston is at the top of its stroke it does'nt mater? as its only when valves are set that the compresion stroke is set.
Or am i missing something?
keep thoses wheels turning

engine has to be rotating in the correct direction to take out the "backlash" in the cam drive train.
I put adjustable cam wheels on mine...... now I need an expert everytime I do it  ( he's tried to teach me but ..........)

You have to set the timing with the 1-4 tdc mark on the ADT aligned with the mark on the crankcase.
You have to use the 1-4 mark or the timing will be 180 deg out.
And Yes! the cam timing once set correctly determines which stroke is compression and which is exhaust as until the timing is set there is no distinguishing which tdc is either.
