Hi,
Recently acquired a December 1978 Z1000 which has been stood for several years and is almost complete.
I'm looking to restore it to as original condition as possible but am having difficulty finding people who know about the bike, parts, Haynes Manual etc (most seem to detail bikes to 1977).
I understand it's possibly an American import, except that it is registered on what seems to be a standard UK reg "T" plate. All seems fine except it currently isn't running and indicators, original tail and a few other bits are missing. I have seen it running, but not for about 4 years and not whilst it was in my ownership.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to start? I'd be interested in chatting to people with knowledge & ideas, websites to visit, useful people to contact etc. I've got a lot of experience with bikes but this is a project we really want to get to grips with.
I'm in Wiltshire. I can supply chassis / model numbers etc to anyone genuine who has half an idea on the subject if it helps identify the bike.....
Please help if you can with the start of this really exciting project - I don't want to see it sitting for a few more years in my garage!
Thanks,
Jools

Hi and welcome, I too have a 78 Z1000 (look in project section for pictures) and mine is a US import, have a look at the V5c log book, does it say "originally registered overseas" have a look at the headstock notice, it will tell you where it was built, mine says "made in USA" also right hand switch gear, is there a light switch there?

If you contact Z-POWER,01942 262864,they will be able to tell you what model it is.You can check out their website via the links section at the top of the page.
Paid up club members get discount at Z-POWER.
Try and get hold off a genuine Kawsaksi workshop manual as they are the best. They are usually expensive new but regularly turn up on ebay.
