Mechanic needed

#1 PostAuthor: ukcoupe » Sun Jun 19, 2011 5:07 pm

Guys,

I need a good Z mechanic in or around London. Preferably North, but not fussed. My limited mechanical skills have reached their limit!

Somebody posted one recently, but I think the thread was lost in the Great Crash of '11.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chrisu, thanks for replying.

My KZ1000 A2 has been miss firing and running badly for a couple of weeks.

I have cleaned and rebuilt my carbs (VM26's) with Keyster kits but no real joy.

Symptoms are/were bogging down and miss firing under load until about 5k then bike takes off.

Was popping as well, so I replaced both rubber carb holders and exhaust gaskets.

Have tried running bike on standard jets and pilots with air box and also jetting up pilots and mains with K&N's. Makes no difference. Still bad.

Bike was ticking over fine and choke appears to be functioning correctly, but revs are holding and not dying immediately when given a bit of juice. Presumed air leak, but having replaced the carb holders and exhaust gaskets, I'm stumped. Gasket maybe? No leaks That I can see.

Possibly be electrical? I'm getting sparks on all four, but they seem weak to me and when the ignition is on, I am only getting about 7.5V at the coils. I thought it should be 12V. Am I wrong here? Electrics are a black art to me I'm afraid.

I've rebuilt the carbs so many times now I'm getting depressed! They seem to be operating smoothly though.

I've checked the compression and that seems good.

Bike is now running on three after my latest bout of 'fixing'. Good times!

All electrics, lights etc. are working fine it seems.

As I don't have a shed I am doing this in my front yard in between monsoon downpours! Really bummed now and I definitely need some help. Someone who knows what they are doing will probably sort it in short order, but I am getting out of my depth.

Any ideas ?

BunnysZ, the number for the mechanic you have would be really appreciated if you want to pm me. Thanks.

certainly sounds like an air leak if its hanging.

also 7.5v not enough - do a search for wiredgeorge - he has a mod to get 12v to the coils that will help.

dyna or points ingition ?

Its Boyer ignition. I know it's not popular here, but was on the bike when I got it and has been working fine....

I'll check out the wiredgeorge mod.

Thanks
