hi, i have a 77 z1000 which charges at15/16 volts tried a reg still the same so i thought i would try a reg/rect from a blackbird i got a new unit from somewhere ,would this work?
if i take the 3yellow wires from the alternator to the unit then the red to pos and the blacks neg of the battery :?: :?: :?:

Mac777, the fact that your blackbird reg/rect unit has 3 yellow wires is a start, that means it has three wires coming from the alternator. I beleve you will be able to get it working, however, you won't have a switch circuit. the replacements need a 6 wire reg/rect.

I bought a replacement reg/rect from electrex specifically for the Z1000A1/2 & that doesn't have a switch or voltage sensing wire, just three yellow to the altenator, a pos & neg. Must admit, I haven't tried to fit it yet, but presumed the modern stuff didn't need a switch wire. :shock:
