Not seen one like that before Geoff. At a guess I'd say bend the 4 tangs away from sprocket which will allow the nut cover to be removed and the thin nut underneath to be undone.

Thats a much better engineered tab washer than the one i found fitted on mine Geoff...............looked like it was made out of an old brass tap washer!!

Cheers John / Steve ..... is a bit weird ain't it ....
Can anyone else throw any light on the subject?

The inner ring ( that surrounds the nut ) is rattling so that's why I want to change it to a normal tab washer & nut

John's got it. You bend back the four narrow tabs and the front domed (cupped) washer falls out. Then remove the bolt in the normal way by spragging the sprocket or use correct tool.
I use a combination of sockets and short 1/2inch to 3/8 adaptors untill i get the right spacing from tooth (root) to frame cross tube, backed up with liberal use of the back brake sitting on the bike in the normal way.

Hope this helps.

AL.

P.S at some time in its previous life before i owned it and put one of these on it (the sprocket) had come loose and fallen off the J1 at speed i would say.
It had destroyed the swing arm bearing and bent the crosstube. One of the sprocket teeth had gone straight through the swing arm at the bearing location and left a perfectly square hole in it. Bloke with the frame test jig phoned me up having kittens and asked me what had caused it.
Took a little detective work but that was the culprit.
Moral; Dont break it getting it off, i believe they are no longer available and they will stop the dramas'

Geoff you replied whilst i was writing and now i see your intentions please see above.
If the inner domed ring is rattling then just push the narrow tabs back onto it with a small suitable drift.
This will stop any annoying noises. It is far far far better than the tab washer arrangement.

P.S. Anyone got a spare??
