Started on the first fix of electrics yesterday. This bit I was dreading as me & electrics don't mix.

After about 4 hours of trying to get a reading at my ignition white wire, I finally found the fault, which was a bad connection inside one of the connector blocks.

Now all working, lights front & rear - clocks, starter all good.

Also fitted the venhill brake & hydraulic clutch lines & will bleed these next week.

Some pics of the loom "mess"- I have ordered some stainless steel / pvc coated cable wraps to tidy it all up.

I should also have my stainless steel battery box fabricated at work next couple of days.

ITS ALIVE !!!!!

#32 PostAuthor: z1000puddin » Wed Dec 12, 2012 9:05 pm

Well decided to stick some oil into the engine.
Roughly fitted the 28mm carbs.& some old throttle cables.
Whipped the tank off of my other zed.,,,,,,..........................

SHAGGED THE WOODRUFF KEY AFTER ABOUT 5 SHORT BURSTS

So I decided to kick start the bloody thing --- Worst decision ever !!

Dont try to kick start a zed while wearing your slippers
The bloody thing kicked back after 2 kicks & promptly ripped through the side of me slipper :??
Opened the side from toe to heel - Bloody sore that :x

After putting my boots on,I gave it another kick & she started up straight away.
Sounds a little bit rough, but I have only static set the ignition & the carbs are still to be fitted with some velocity stacks & possibly need set up.
But here is a little "JERKY" video.
I only revved her up to around 3000 revs & still on half choke.

But it is a very GOOOD feeling after having this kicking about the garage in bits for the last year & a bit. To actually have her running is a great feelin.

Mikey,
Yeah bloody good feelin.

I need to strip off the carbs again, as I cannot remember what jets / settings these were set up with, but they ran okay on the 1000ltd I had.

I will also be sending down an alloy chain guard , the front brake/ clutch levers & the rear number plate mount for some MEG ( Mikey Elbow Grease) :P

Again, no mad panic for these bits to come back as I wont have the paint set back from Si (flying tiger)until late January.

Will PM you nearer time

Thanks guys,
The seat was made of 3mm ally & fabricated at work.
I had a local guy up in Aberdeen mould the foam & covered in it leather.
It took him a couple of goes to get the shape/ look that I wanted, but I am happy with it now.

Mr Puffin,
My idea on this project was to have a standard z1000 frame & not molest it.
I could have went the whole hog & braced it/chopped it etc, but, this could be put back to standard if required.

All the "Bits" are made to bolt on.

This idea of mine has caused all sorts of issues that I have had to overcome & sometimes I thought " Is it worth it"
But I beleive that once you start a project with an idea that you need to stick to it.

I hope I have made the right choice !! :!: :!:

The rear sets actually pivot from the bottom of the rear foot rest hangers.
They are quite comfortable for me ( 6ft 4") But maybe not to everyone's fit position.

The comments are more than welcome guys.

Cheers

Guys,
Spent the morning bleeding the Falk hydraulic clutch.

Question is - How or is there any adjustment on these, I thought that they were self adjusting :?:

With mine all bled & fitted I dont get any back wheel movement when engaging the gears :?:

With the clutch casing off, I get all my gears ( just knocking it to gear)

The Falk slave cylinder seems to be working fine with the casing off.

I am using a GPZ900 master cylinder

It seems as though my clutch is engage all the time, when the casing is on & bolted up :?:

Do I need to shorten the clutch push rod ??

Any pointers greatly accepted

The unit comes with a small bit of bar inside where the rod sits. You just cut that to length.... I didn't find a lot of "self adjustment" with mine :|

Thanks gents,
I did think I would have the cut the push-rod down.

I didn't get any bar with the unit, but if I do get the length wrong, I can get a small bar machined up, possibly thread it into the slave cylinder so I do have some adjustment.

Cheers

Its going to be TIGHT.But it will fit

Tacked up the rear baffle box & tail pipes.

Just need to get the link pipe sized up & send the details down to Dave.(Exhaust craft) So I can join everything up.

Removed the tail & will get these down to Si this week.(flying tiger)

Clutch now sorted
Front & rear brakes were a doddle to bleed, Very unusual.

Found out that the generator coil & the original regulator were goosed, so I have ordered up both from Electrexworld.
So I will also have to get another alternator cover gasket
