Im ok for the thinner shims now. Mentioned it to one of my mates (30 seconds walk away)and he rummaged around in his garage and came out with a box with 200-odd shims in it from 2.00-3.20! Wish Id known that to begin with, but he`d forgotten all about it as had them for years since ran a shop. Hopefully there`ll be enuf there of the right sizes to do it all. If not tho Ive got thin shims to get a measurement with and can order some up.

Just waiting for head to come back from getting buggered threads welded n helicoiled.

Cheers for all the help folks. Greatly appreciated when your stressing out at yer bike!

Bike's looking good Jon. I might develop your frame protector idea if you don't mind.

Yeah feel free mate. I actually cut those plates out for something else, but didnt use them and didnt want to let them go to waste. :)

Yup engines all together and running sweetly. New head, 2 new exhaust valves, and the Kent cams dialled in to .2mm gap as per theyre recommendations. Compression is HUGE now. Think the lowest cylinder was 140-odd PSI, and that was cold! Can barely move the kickstart and Im a good 13-odd stone. Balanced the carbs, etc, etc too. Runs sweetly now.

Not been out on it yet as bodywork stripped for airbrushing. Not getting anywhere near it right now as been snowed under with helmets, computer cases, etc, etc. Should get the bodywork finished off in the next couple of weeks tho. Rest of bikes all polished up ready tho. Bit of a crap picture, but I`ll post some decent ones once its all back together again.

Cant wait to get out on her again and see what difference the engine works made. I reckon its gonna be a HUGE difference tho. Valves that close properly and arent bent, cams that arent loose cos of stripped threads, and a sealed exhaust.

Cheers for the help everyone, and especially Rich for the tool drawing.
