I have also experienced this problem about 20 years ago- it is like a hairline crack lengthways along the pipe.
Whenever the fuel tap is on - it leaks!

Not sure what causes it - metal fatigue??

To 'fix' mine I managed to source a replacement part.

I seem to remember there may be an earlier thread on this subject somewhere on this site.
