make sure you don't get the stuff on the paint, best to mask everything off. block the holes up but pour out the excess once you are happy its coated the entire inner surface. it takes a few days to set fully. im sure you'll be fine but keep the first part cleaner (assuming you are getting the kit) as long as you can allow, i think it says 20 mins but this isn't long enough.

So roughly how long should I let the 1st part do it thing? Is several hours 1 afternoon too long? Is there anyway I can leave it in too long and it's gonna cause damage?

Now I am scared. I figured not to get it on the paint, but it is going in for a re-spray once I get it running sweet again. Just feels like it's taking forever. :x

it's not long if i remember, certainly no more than an hour. the final part will cover it and seal it anyway. it comes with instructions, the longest parts are drying the tank before the final stage - i had a hairdryer fired into the petrol cap hole to speed it up, and letting the final coat cure which is recommended to be 4 days.
if it gets into any threads or anywhere it isn't meant to then it will budge, it doesn't shatter. For the cleaning stage it's best to use rubber/cork bungs for sender and petrol tap holes, the cleaner/hot water solution will disolve the glue in any tape you try.
the instructions are pretty good, and remember its nasty stuff. good luck, allow an afternoon to do the job. there are a few guides about on the web.
oh and it also comes with a patch and brush in case you do get any holes to repair.

Hi guys, I had great success with vinegar, just fill tank to brim and leave for a couple of days, I am told industrial vinegar works best but all I could get was white vinegar, it was cheap and worked a treat. After treatment rinse with white spirit and if leaving empty spray with ACF50. I did buy some expensive rust cleaner from Stafford , worked well but rinsed with water as per instructions and tank went rusty instantly ,load of crap!
