Electrical Kill Switch Help

#1 PostAuthor: Royalratch » Mon Aug 03, 2009 8:12 am

Hi all.

I removed this bulky and ugly kickstand kill switch from my '83 Z650F and I thought it wouldn't affect the starting only the ability ti kill the engine but I chopped it off and revealed 4 wires:

1 x Blue/White + 1 x Pink + 2 x Black
Image

So now it won't start. I'm not an electrical genius but I assume it functions on the starter motor and ignition hence 2 coloured wires plus 2 earths...?

I'd ideally like to remove the whole wiring but will settle for a temporary fix to get it moving?

Any help on either?

I agree with Mick, if you do not have a wiring diagram to follow, for now - just wire it back in until you get the answer you need,

Cheers

Might have jacked it too bad. Will try and do some bodge splicing to get it to a garage as it needs a new front tyre too.

This is my guesstimation working off an online wiring diagram.

On the bike twist the two Blacks together to make the starter button work.

I couldn't find a reference to the blue/white and pink wires.

So if it doesn't start with the two blacks joined together twist the other two together as well and try that.

Thanks Gus I will try.

My guess was that the two Blacks are earth so each coloured wire should be twisted to a black and that completes the circuit for each colour?

I'm assuming that the two Blacks are Earth as the circuit for Ignition and Starter would need on each?

My guess without looking at a wiring diagram is that the two blacks complete the circuit to the starter switch. Whilst they are on the earth side they are not regarded as earth, merely circuit completion just like a clutch switch.

The two others ? is there some kind of indicator device to say the stand is down as once running the cut out would not be operative !

This is how it works.

I cannot start the bike with the kick stand down.
If I put the kick stand down whilst it's running it kills the engine.

So it must be operating on two things, I'm guessing Starter and Ignition.

Does that help?

Obviously then it cuts through the kill switch,

but does it also stop you trying to spin the motor or is there a display lamp ?

This wiring diagram shows the two Blacks and another set of wires going to a release switch and the other into the coil wiring.

Join the two Blacks and try it.

If it doesn't start, try it with the Blacks joined and the other two joined.
