A4 fork springs/oil

#1 PostAuthor: Z.O.A » Tue Apr 07, 2009 10:46 am

Right then, straight to it, does anyone have the correct measurement for the service limit length on the standard springs in a '76 A4 and the correct amount amount of oil to use?
I will be getting progressive springs at some stage but they aint in the budget at the minute (actually the bike itself was'nt in the budget either, lol).

I have a complete kawasaki manual for the Z range and the info this gives me is, free length: Springs Good- 495.5mm, service Limit- 485mm. The amount for the oil is 5.7 fl.oz.
Now, the free length of my springs are 464mm each, I understand they get shorter as they weaken but am I also correct in thinking that not all models have spacers (40mm) under the cap nut and so would have a different spring?
I also found on some various rebuilds that 6.5fl.oz of oil was used in the forks.
Any info and help appreciated, cheers. :)

From the genuine manual, the fork springs for the A4 should be; Standard - 465mm, service limit - 455mm.
The figures for Z1 are; Standard - 505.5mm, service limit - 495.5mm.
Fork oil capacities for the A4 are; 5.7 - 6.0 or 170 - 178cc.
Four pipes rule, anything else is second best.

Thanks for that Phil, much appreciated, I would have gotten the new springs if it was essential and the old ones were out of limits, but I still got a list of other bits to buy so I gotta prioritise at the minute.
Thanks again mate.
