Picked it up yesterday, I am trying to source a battery for it & will have a go at getting it started asap.


I know some on here will 'dissaprove' cos its only got one shocker at the back............................... But I don't really care!
Not sure what I am gonna do with it at the moment. One thought is to graft modern running gear on to each end & try and fit some 1000J bodywork for another Lawson clone (Jack, I should have asked you FIRST about body work, I KNOW!) or I might decide to return it to something more like it's original state, found these pic's today & they have inspired me!

Dont matter steve its still a kawasaki standard trim looks nice though, morpheus motorcycles in kingswood two mile hill road just done a ground up rebuild on a GPZ900, done a cracking job of it as well but they put 1000RX motor in it, nearly fainted when tim told me what its cost the customer.

It's Alive !
How chuffed am I?
After not being able to buy a battery for it today, I resorted to using a booster pack, which needed charging
I had tried it earlier, but just got a naff noise from the solenoid. I thought it might be knackered & was going to short across the terminals once the booster pack had been charged.
But no need. I gingerly (I know!) clipped the booster pack clips to the battery wires, turned the key, pressed the button & Vroom, it fired up instantly
Warmed the engine gently, no nasty bangs or rattles. Throttle response is very crisp. On initial brief inspection, the engine seems oil tight........ Oh happy day's
Lights & indicators don't work properly, but that shouldn't take too much...... Hopefully.
Right, I think that calls for a Stella or two !!!!

Still undecided which direction this will go in.
Bike came with ten years of MOT's & tax disc's so has had regular use in the past.
I think initially I will clean thoroughly, fit new seat cover & grips. Change oil & filter, check all bearings/brakes etc, then put it through it's MOT, so I can ride it for a while to see if there are any underlying problems.
One good thing is, the wife to be like's it She rekons it's a right stonker!
What has surprised me, is although this is only 5 years younger than my Z1000A2, technology had stomped on in the early eighties. Maybe it's because my A2 was the last of the original design based on the Z1, before the MKII's etc came along. Who knows?

As it was a bit of a milestone bike, it would be nice to see it in standard trim, like the photo you posted, but I guess that could be a cost-a-lot job.

Steve, you are confusing technology with electronics and computerisation. The wheel was a technological breakthrough in it's time.

Just had a bit of a poke around tonight....... Still aquanting meself with the new 'Beast'. Came across these....

Lucky No.7 bolts, so I guess TLC might want one now!
It proves one of two things, either it is quite original, or nobodys spent any money on it!
Magnum1, the zorst sounds fantastic, much louder & crisper than me Z1000A1/2 even with that cut down can. Headers are stainless, with no ding's or dent's & I think they will clean up well. End can is a Micron, but I don't think they were bought as a complete unit. I will defo keep the headers (sorry Zed1015) & probably fit another cut down can.
Money has already started leaving my wallet
Massive 19AH Varta battery was best part of £50 from Bristol Batteries, best I could find on line was £45 + Postage, but came with no acid
Seat cover was about £25, it is a 'tailored' seen 'em a lot on ebay.... will report on quality when it arrives.
New Grips were around £7 oil was £22, filters I have on the shelf. Adding it to my insurance policy was another £30 odd ............ seems like ........ Here we go again!!!!!!
