Barrel O rings?????

On stripping me Z1000A1 motor, the O rings that site around the liners, against the crank case, have gorn 'ard, like plastic.
So upon removal they all fell to bits :!:

What purpose do they perform. Can't really see they do a lot :?:

They sit up in a recess, not really sealing anyting :!:

Surely they ain't there to seal the liner/barrel :?:

optional in my opinion. I've noticed no difference with or without them........

Pigfart the O rings are there to stop oil seeping up between the liners and block,have seen a few engines with them missing and hadn't been leaking.For all the cost of them i would fit new ones

Fred, I did have a guess that could be what they're for, but surely (not Shirley), the liners are a real tight fit, and those O rings aren't compressed as the recess is a bit deeper than the O ring diameter :!:

Gonna see how much they are, and if reasonable, may buy some :evil:

If you have the sizes I am sure I have a set you can have FOC (apart from the usual cuppa). I have a couple of old gasket sets that I only used some of the gaskets out of none of the seals.

Piggy,I've been told that if you leave a cylinder block out in the sun :roll:

the liners will just drop out.
Maybe when the site Romeo (Steve Debben) has a spare moment,he'll let us know. :wink:

Hello Pigford, Fred is right, they where just there to prevent oil from going up between the block and liner, apart from they are always so hard that they wont do anything and if you did have oil between the liner and block then this would suggest a block /liner fitment problem, I would put it down to another case of Kawasaki's early aircooled over-enginnering.
