Like i already suggested lads!!!!

Just a thought Wayne, have you set the slides about 1mm from the bottom in all 4 cases? are you giving her full choke with the throttle fully closed? hence max vacumn? choke lifting all four plungers? pilots set one and a quarter turns out from bottom?

 sorry Paul missed it

Ok thanks for all your valid advise. Obviously I can't do everything at once but was worried about compression so did a very quick in calculated check by putting my finger over each plug hole. Verdict was good really strong on 1,2 & 3 but felt a little weaker on 4 but it was pushing and sucking my finger so could equally be ok.

Checked filter on petrol tap and it also looked ok.

Drained the carb bowl that keeps overflowing so need to deal with that but I must admit there wasn't a lot that came out but the bowl must have filled up for it to overflow.

All pilots set at one and a quarter turns out so all good there. Not sure about sliders and 1mm!

Could floats be upside down????? Need to check the one I have the bowl off.

Thanks again for sticking with this.

it is unlikely the floats are upside down but its worth checking as this would cut of the fuel completely

180 degrees out? Can it be? How can I ensure it's not?

if it was 180% out it would pop & bang when turning it over. apart from doing a proper compression test the only way of checking is to take the cam cover of & set the crank at TDC on no 1&4 cylinders

Just checked and the float appears to be the right way up with the cut out uppermost.
So to stop petrol leaking through the overflow I adjust the tab so the float sits higher?

I was pretty particular when I set the cam chain up so hope all ok there.
I'll keep checking.
Haven't swapped the leads over yet. How do you know which ones to swap? 1&4 or 2&3 or both?

With regards to ignition timing, not cam timing!
Wayne, recall I said that often the two leads from the contact breaker get swapped around. They are bullet connectors and can be simply changed over.... It requires lifting the tank and swapping the green connector to the coil with the white to the other coil. You would have seen spark at the plugs but it would be at the wrong stroke. (Note~ Could have colour coding incorrect).

Another problem maybe, you need to adjust the float levels as prescribed.
Not an easy job for the learner.

the black wire from the points goes to the left coil which is 1&4 the green wire goes to the right coil which is 2&3

Ok guys. I'll check. If you recall the real problem is no petrol getting into chamber as plugs are dry.

have you given it a shot of easy start or put some petrol in the bores to see if it fires?
