Mick,
My frame number is 099*** - check Pierre's database and the
nearest frame number to mine has it logged as original paintset that was with that was / is brown. What say you?

Basically, I believe mick is saying that the bike was built and one of the current paint sets were put on, depending what Kawasaki thought it was going to sell.

The fact that a bike one number below and or one number above was brown, has no significance as to what colour that bike would be.

A4s were mostly green in this country as that was what Kawasaki UK ordered, but some peeps ordered brown ones, so there are a few of them as well.

If Kawasaki Japan didn't have any browns one to fulfill an order they would have taken a few green ones and swapped the paintwork over.

Hence Micks statement "paintwork would have no correlation to the engine numbers"

As a PS.

I did have one of the green Z1As many years ago that I was going to fill in a dent and when I stripped off the paint, there was the green and yellow paint of the original Z1 underneath.

Obviously Kawasaki decided that they had overproduced tanks for the Z1 and just resprayed it in Z1A colours.

I'll stick with green then if I ever restore my Z900 to standard spec.

what im saying is that there is no connection between an engine number and the original colour of the bike. you cant put an engine number alone into any data base and extract the original paint colour. therefore Baz's engine cases cant be connected to an original paint colour. so if you are looking for some cases to go with your 099 frame and Bas's fall within that range then they suit the bike. Bas wouldnt be able to know what the original paint colour would have been for the cases.

if you could match the cases to a frame you could match the colour

you can only match the colour to the frame, cases are unconnected. it all goes through the frame.

So it's also possible the Z1 paint underneath that particular Z1A tank,
could have been a donor tank from a seperate Zed, considering the
condition you bought the Z1A (a "wreck") ?

Complete engine or just the crank cases with clear legit numbers.

(January 1976 - March 1976)-(other months considered).

Thanks.

il check as well & would be interested in your old engine if you decide to sell it

Sorry Neil, yes I would be willing to sell my (K)Z900B1 engine if I get the Z900 A4 engine I want.
