Coil query

#1 PostAuthor: Robw » Sun May 12, 2013 7:15 am

Hi, although not a Zed, it's my Yammagamma. The coil that came with it is a 3 ohm green dyna coil and although the bike runs okay ( post complete rebuild) I have been told the correct coil should be 0.33 ohms, what problems will this difference cause. The secondary coil resistance is different also.

Hope this helps. i eventually fitted a "new" Dyna coil bought off a member on here and new Taylor leads. The bike is now A1 . I suspect my main problem was a dodgy lead that was sometimes ok and sometimes not with a slightly high resistance coil. But its happy days now with no pops or misfires on damp days

Hi Andy, that's an interesting thread, I did initially have a problem like yours with it not wanting to run, but it was a new ht lead arching to the head, so I replaced it with a new Taylor lead and that solved that problem.
I really just want to set my mind at rest, using the 3 ohm coil in place of the 0.33 ohm coil.

Out of interest, what is the secondary coil resistance and what should it be?

What made me ask was the 3 ohm & .33 ohm, all I was going to mention was be careful of the scale on your multi meter ie x1 / x10 / x100 ohm, it can lead you up the garden path if you read it wrong, I have done it myself on motor windings, just thought I would mention.

Hi, the figures I have are off the specification sheets, I haven't actually measured it.
Simon, do you know what colour the dyna coil is, as I will try and get one. I don't really want to mess with the coils because if it burns out the ignition system it will cost me a lot to sort out
