I knew you had to make some mods to fit these clocks, am I correct in that you have to remove some metal from the clock brackets.......

Yeah, you will ideally need a Dremel or similar to open out the original bracket. The tacho needs more work than the speedo side.
This is my post on the job from another site ;)
So, in last weeks instalment I had fitted a new tacho but it made the speedo look tatty, so a new speedo was sourced to even up the look of the clocks:

Old binnacle:
Now, to fit these aftermarket clocks, a degree of bracket modification is necessary as the back of the new clocks are a different shape. The part that houses the odometer is slightly wider:
It means some work with a Dremel and a file to remove part of the bracket and allow the clock to seat properly ( the tacho needs more work than the speedo) but it is an easy job and just takes a few minutes with the right tools.
Then all back together and a complete new set of clocks looking all pretty
