33 smoothbore carbs

#1 PostAuthor: paulmceleney » Fri Nov 09, 2012 1:47 pm

These carbs keep flooding i think found the problem ,the float is sticking but i can not see why, when you turn the carbs upside down one is not droping in to the closed position like the over three i have clean the pin it will drop sometimes then it will stick open

Sounds like it might be twisted around the pivot points.

Swap the float to another carb and see if the problem moves.

I assume your float needle and seat are clean and undamaged!

As Kwackerz1 said, the seat or nedle could be dirty, try the float without the needle.

That way you will tell if it's the float sticking on it's pivot or the needle sticking in the seat and holding the float open.

Sounds like a sticky float, has the metal bit where the pin goes through had any knock to make it grip the pin? I have also seen the casting get pushed sideways to obstruct the float, but be careful as they snap easy.
KwackaZ1 ideas best to swap things around and see if fault moves with it.

check the float bowl breathers

#6 PostAuthor: a4beanie » Sun Nov 11, 2012 8:57 am

Hi,Just was wondering if it's a similar problem that i had on my 33mm smoothbores, flooding out of the air jets at the rear of the carb's,tried everything until i noticed the float bowl breather tubes had been blanked off!
there are 2 breathers which i left open and one fuel tap vacumn which needs to be left plugged up if not running a vacumn fuel tap, hope this will solve your problem, mines running fine now.

cheers,Stan

no out of the float bowl, i have fix it now. Its running on all four cylinders and the plugs are nice colour, but number 3 cylinder header is not as hot as the other 3, when putting the carbs back on ,i notice that on number3 looking into the carbs from the back the slider is a different height to the others i have been told this will make it run lean on that cylinder i am not sure how to adjust this so, i plan to take the tops of the carbs of and see if it will adjust there so they are the same
