got fed up after waiting 5 weeks for my plate so rode it anyway in the rain.

Nice bike, is the exhaust home made?
best to spray up these old classics with ACF50, It keeps the moisture out, great stuff, and a good protection for your bikes chrome and ally when it gets caught out in the wet
