Probably been done before, but I couldn't find dedicated thread on this. Its a good tip for boosting spark system on Zeds ( & other older bikes).

Seems to be a good common sense approach to me! Tho' I'm sure some of you 'electrical boffins' will put me right if not :wink:
Theres also more info on carb set up, etc :shock:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

I had a look at this a few weeks back and decided it wasn't worth the bother. All it does is bypass most of the harness with a direct 12v feed via a relay to the coils. If you have a lot of voltage losses in your wiring and switchgear it will work around it, but it might be better in the long term to find the sources of voltage loss and fix them instead. I put a meter across my coil connections and found I already had 12v at the coils. Pointless, then, to fit an extra relay and wiring to give me, erm, 12v at the coils...

Fair comment Dr Rod, as you say, maybe the best part of that info is to check voltage at coil feed to ensure no probs there :!:

12.8v is the voltage of a fully charged 12v battery. Even with a new harness let alone one that is 30 yrs old you will get voltage drops along the length. Then you have switch resistance to think of and spring pressure from the switch springs - have a look at the small springs in your kill switch sometime.
If you are experiencing ignition problems it is certainly a modification that may have benefits and I would not discount it, but if you are running electronic ignition spend the extra on a doide protected relay as the reverse voltage created when the field breaks down can destroy delicate ICs
