New Devonshire member - GPz1100B1

Greetings to the forum members. I have just joined as I have recently taken on a restoration project of a 1981 GPz1100B1 that was originally imported from Switzerland and registered in the UK but has languished in a container for the past 14 years. There's a lot of work to do but I am looking forward to it having owned and ridden a number of Kwaks in the past : GPz550, Z750 and GPZ900R and enjoyed them all. (My current daily ride is a shhh... fj1200).
The GPz presents a number of interesting challenges, including: I have never dealt with fuel injection before on a bike; I don't have a key for the fuel tank (which, judging by the state of the fuel tap I removed, has a layer of marmite covering the bottom inch!); someone has previously removed the Air Flow Metre, air filter housing, battery and fuse box. The good news is a) the engine turns over freely (by hand) and b) I'm quite enthusiastic!
Anyhow, if anyone has any B1 bits, or knowledge thereof, then do chime in. I'll be posting up some progress pics in a dedicated build thred, but for now here is the 'before' shot

From another (ex ) Devon resident . That looks like quite a challenge you have there , good luck . Also speaking from personal experience be careful when searching for B1 spares many parts are listed as B1 / B2 but they are not interchangeable between the two ( injection , fuel tank cylinder head etc etc )

Hello mister,
Where are you based? Im in East Devon. Ive owned a gpz1100b2 for years, for which ive slowly developed a few modifications. Brilliant bikes when sorted.
Also have a z1000a1 and have owned various air cooled gpz's over the years.
If you do deviate from original and put carbs on it ive arrived at a good setup using an airbox that I'm happy to share with you.

Hello and Welcome, I'm another Devonian but now living in Somerset. I've got some B1 spares tucked away including a complete cylinder head and an exceptional fuel tank, there's other stuff too, let me know what you're after.

I am based in Mid-Devon just a few miles north of Exeter - nice to see so many Devonians on the board! I'm sure there will be plenty to pick your collective brain over in the next few months.
Dave (Pluto), do you happen to have an air flow metre and/or air filter housing?
So far I have managed to remove the old spark plugs, turn the crank by hand and remove the lock cylinder from the petrol cap without damaging the cap. So all good so far.
Has anyone found a neat solution for sprucing up the dashboard fascia? I have some replacement clockfaces but would like to repaint the dashboard fascia. This will obliterate the 'Turn, Neutral, High Beam' etc. lettering. Any thoughts?
Off to clean out the petrol tank!

I have tracked down a replacement AFM on e bay in Canada so hoping i might be able to bag that one. I want to have the bike running before I tear it down...

Hello and welcome from a fellow newbie with a GPZ1100B1 !
Mine is also "quite a project" - it already has had the Fuel Injection removed and carbs supplied - but not attached!
Mr Bump, I would be very interested in your carb setup for the GPZ1100 with air box.
I do not want to go down aftermarket air filters even though they make carb removal and refitting a lot easier. Getting the jetting correct can be a nightmare if original airbox is removed. Would your setup be ok for an 1170 kit?
