My Lawson project

#1 PostAuthor: Plumba 54 » Sun Jan 07, 2007 5:38 pm

Well here goes. I bought the bike back in April with the view to using it during the summer and then stripping and rebuilding it in the winter. The previous owner had it 12 years but had only done 900 miles in the last 9 years and although dry stored had done nothing to it during this time, and after lots of niggly problems and loaning an exhuast off Jack (big thanks) i had a few months use before disaster struck the day before the Ace Cafe ride out to Brighton when something within the engine decided to do an impression of the alien inside John Hurts stomach and burst its way out of the sump under the clutch housing,so the strip down started a bit earlier than anticipated.
I had during the summer been sourcing replacment parts, stainless braided oil lines, braided stainless brake lines, oil cooler,f & b discs,Kerker, screen and Ohlins.

Holy shit..it worked !!
Well after the strip down i have had several casings polished by Mikey, and would recommened his work to anybody. I have also had the frame, brake calipers and holders and every single bracket that i could find powder coated.
Forks have been re chromed and rebuilt by Philpotts, buti still need to touch up the paintwork on the stantions.
Jacks got the engine which has been totally stripped and ive had to source another set of carbs as mine were knackered.
The seat was ok on the top but the bottom edges were work and had several splits so a company called B Trim in Enfield replaced the piping and just the sides, very good job and just ?30.
I hope to have the running gear on next weekend so it will look a bit more like a bike. This pic is as it is at the moment.
This is my first ever total strip and rebuild and ive no doubt im probably doing things a bit arse about face but we all learn as we go along, and the swear box in the garage hasnt got much in it at the moment !

Don't sweat it Padders, after Dale's beloved Arsenal beat the mighty Liverpool his engine re-build will take a little longer to complete.
I reckon it will now take as long as the new Wembley stadium!!

Harsh Jack, you must have noticed i havent made 1 call or sent 1 text extracting the urine.

Padders, dont sweat it, i dont reckon it being done until March, youve gotta get yours done for Donny. I liked Ash's bike as it was but if you are using the red/black one as a guide for yours, then it will look even better.
