Got to get my arse in gear with this build. Quite a lot to do and get though. Was gutted to see that my V&H pipe was covered in surface rust yesterday

Nothing will get done while I sit on my arse so... Reaches for phone
Tank, side panels and tailfin are at the painters so next job had better be to sort out that red frame...

Looks like someone has allready braced that frame.
What is going to be like when built?

Can I ask what you mean by braced Steve?

Assume he means the bar on your front downtubes

Just been on the phone to an old contact of mine at Straightline Racing, Kings Lynn (dunno if they're familiar to people here?) who's gonna look for the head I sent them 10 years ago! That's gonna be gas-flowed and have some new valves put in and he can do me a great deal on some 33mm smoothbores or some 36mm (bored out) carbs from a Katana 1000. Should be interesting.

Oh yes, I had no idea that wasn't standard to be honest. Just checked some old photos and it was there when I bought the frame

Hi Tall order, your frame is braced across the front down tubes, that is not standard. It is also braced by small tubes welded across the top tubes behind where the coils mount. I cant see where else it may be braced perhaps you could post some more pics.
The idea is to stop the flexing so much and improve the handling. It does help if done properly, however although I cant be entirely sure from the pics the tube across the front down tubes looks to be very small diameter?
If you could post some more pics of the front, round the headstock area, and of the rear down tubes behind the engine we should be able to see what else has been done to it.

Thanks Steve and Pigford. This is very interesting. I had no idea these weren't standard tubes. I'll pop one on from 1995 to be going on with and scan some more soon. I guess if it's gonna get some decent treatment this build, I may as well get all the bracing done it needs (and replace anything that's inadequate). Is it a preffered option to add bracing?

I bought a Vance Hines off them a few months back on Ebay. Turns out they didn't have any in stock and were just gathering orders - I had to put up with a load of bs / lies and cancelled after a month. I paid via Paypal but instead of refunding my money to my PayPal account (I'd opened a dispute) they sent me a cheque. They're wankers.

Exactly what happened to me, paid, they couldn't supply complete order, took full payment and I had to make loads of phone calls till I got all the parts, no e mail or paypal then, weren't helpful or friendly, once bitten......

We take as we find and I don't blame anyone for being pissed off with their service if it's been bad. I've always gotten on well with my contact there, made many visits to their warehouse and haven't been disappointed. I was very flattered that I was remembered there after 10 years away... They helped me a great deal when I was building my Z (starting 14 years ago) way beyond just being a supplier. I won't defend them, if their stock/distribution is shite they should be vilified. They've always been shit hot with me, can't fault them.
