Hi again. After buying this lovely untouched ( well almost!) non running z1000 Ltd, I thought it would be an easy fix. After messing about for a while I had to enlist the help of top bloke Chris from here, who lives nearby, to finally get it running. What a man! I'm happy to say that after re-routing some wiring myself and balancing the carbs I actually managed to ride the bike up and down the road👻👻 it's lovely but fuck me it's heavy!
It's still not quite running right but it's pretty good. I need an air box lid if anyone knows anyone with one.
I can't believe the knowledge on this sight it's invaluable.
The bike will be ready for the spring and I can't wait.
I'm trying to put photos on here but not sure how. Chris I'm sure will post some for me. I will post as soon as I work it out.
I will keep the forum informed of my progress.
Thanks guys

The 5 counties (Berks, Bucks, Herts, Middlesex and Oxfordshire) group. Keep checking for dates this year, they are usually around our way. There were a few at the Dog House in Broughton last year.

I dropped in to see Lee and his bike last Saturday. He seems quite normal so I wonder why he would wish to associate himself with a load of 50 somethings who prefer older bikes. Nowt stranger than folk I guess.

We managed to get his bike running temporarily as he needs to make some repairs to his loom and we didn't want to commit to power take off for his ignition just yet. Tidying to do and decisions to take.
His carbs were pretty much there with regard to settings after a strip but the ignition was not. Not knowing how to wire in his new Dyna he got me, who also doesn't know how, to help. Thankfully GB was on the end of the phone and we got it sorted.
It ran but roughly. He did have a smile on his face when it finally fired.

I only took one picture.

Nice one Lee,
are you keeping it standard or junking everything LTD apart from the front mudguard ?. :D

I'm going to keep it standard as I can visually. maybe braided hoses and better pads. It's already got a Dyna S ignition and coils but that will hopefully keep it running better for longer. Just want to get it road legal first then clean it up and respray the paintwork. All the chrome is still rust free so why why change it !!! I need the chrome clock cluster housing changing for a better one and a couple of other bits will crop up as you know.
Thanks for your comment.

LTDs are marmite bikes, they are the cheapest way to get a Z1000, but a lot of owners change them, that's fine, just makes ours worth more

I always liked them when I was 14 or so. My friends dads friend had a 440 and always liked the style of it. I don't think the Ltd's were as popular either but I suppose that makes them a bit more 'special ' like their owners 🤡🤓

You'll never be quite as 'special' as a Shed1R rider.......... :bla :sou

Good to see you bringing the bike back to life. :up
