I bought a Gpz750 uni trac a little while back with the idea of building something with it. However,I spotted a gpz turbo frame for sale with a V5 and an extended gsxr swingarm, for not much money,so Ive done a deal to make it mine.
The easy thing to do would be when the frame arrives,to see which front end fits the easiest (either a USD front end of poss an early blade front end?),fit a suitable rear wheel (it looks like either a zx7r 6inch wide one or a 5.5inch wide one from a zx9 or when i pick it up,Steve W's zxr750 one). I could have the basic's of a rolling chassis in an afternoon. Then pull it to bits again and sent to the powdercoaters.
However, that would be too easy. :D Or sensible for me. :D
Heres a pic of the bike Im getting the frame and swingarm from.

I want to make it look like a "proper" bike. :D Id love to have the cash to just go buy a classic kawasaki, but im skint, with an almost non existant budget,so I cant do that. So,it'll be off to the spare part dept to have a look to see what set of sidepanels, tanks, seats etc I have? The camera will be busy later this week when mock up pics need to be taken. :D
Having been a hoarder of parts for years im lucky now not to spend money, but just to pick from my pile of bits and pieces. :D
On the style front im torn between making it look like a modded z650,fresh candy red paint with a lot of polished alloy. Or fit set of z1 panels, with new old style paint, black engine and black everything else. Or fit z1000mk2 panels to be a bit more different?? Or go for a Lawson replica with z1000j panels.....
Even as I type,my minds in overdrive. lol.
With the frame already having been modded to take a GSXR swingarm,i could junk the long arm and fit this one instead?

I'll be on page 10 before i even lift a finger on this!
Inspiration to keep me going. :D
I know from germany a builder has used a Gpz frame with mods made to fit z1 panels,so its do-able. I think he posted up on OSP too?

I know z650 panels fit,cos Ive done that in the past. The mk2 panels will go on too easily. Ive a big hammer and 2 welding sets. :D

I love the look of that.
And this.

Another inspiration fave is this bike.

If I had a z1r seat and tailpice, which for some odd reson I dont have,I could go for the z1r look.

I know what ever way we go,its going to have a black engine (of some sort),black wheels,a black swingarm. So thats part of it planned out.
Im going to abandon all that rubbish called HUC (hard up chopper)sh*t for now,and crack on with one bike. lol. As if.lol.
I must have been mentally unstable when i started these things. :D Why oh why did I do it?????

Mind you,if you look closely at the front of this one,it has a nice KTM wire wheel. :D If I can find a rear to match, that would look nice on the Gpz thing.

Choppers......yuck.... :D

If you like, I can get you in contact with Michael (aka Michael90 on OSP), he's a friendly fella, so I'd be surprised, if he wouldn't want to help out with the odd bit of knowledge.

Don't say *YUCK* to choppers, they can be as cool as penguin's p*ss, if done right...

Cheers,
Greg

Thanks nanno,Im already a signed up member on OSP,but dont seem to get there that often. On the OSP site my pal Tom is or has built a 1500 turbo Yam engined Katana,Ive the pnels here in my little spray booth for paint,so keep an eye out for that?
Ginger Bear,I need a big stick with somebody to hold it,to manage me in some direction. :D

Yuck to chops?? lol. Yuck to HUC ones. lol. Butler the owner of the company that builds them is a clever chappy in business. He sells the frames like hot cakes. He wont be fussed once he has the money in the bank as to what happens with then. But,I could talk for a while about the pitfalls of the frames. Maybe some other time though. Ive a few friends building chops, some good, some indifferent and some cr*p. lol.
One of the good ones is my mate Robbie, who has a blog thing, check it out to see his workings. He built single sided z900.

http://fumesngears.blogspot.co.uk/

He's a good laugh, and a handy person to know. :D He was up at my workshop, and i was showing something Id try to make, but made a mess of. He laughed and said people often kindly compliment him on his stuff he makes, but said if they could see his scrap bin for the mistakes made, they might not think him so clever. lol. He is clever though. :D

Speaking of choppers,a mate asked me if he could try the black chop's mustang tank on his uncle bunt 750 twin chop? I hate mustang tanks as much as i hate twin dommie headlights so I said he could. Now,he wants the tank. :D He used to be a bike painter in the past,so Im going to ask him to spray the new project frame black for me in exchange for the tank. :D
Although Ive a spray booth,i dont like painting frames,he has more space than me in his workshop too. So a happy deal being done,me thinks? Cost, nothing really, his time,in his paid working day for a tank. :D
Another good thing about his workshop is he has an endless supply of argon gas for welding. :D I seem to be getting ripped off big time by BOC,so any welding I shall tack weld, and then finish over at his. Or let him weld for me. :D

LOL. No.
Its fun sometimes being me. :D
This afternoon im busy painting a KTM super motard thing. Its going candy orange, over a silver base coat, followed by a silver shimmer coat, then proper metal flake before candy and clear coat. My workshop was freezing,so rather than let the xtractor pull the fumes (and heat out),ive been working in a cloud of fumes. I feel as a high as a kite!!
H&S doesnt exist in my workshop. LOL.
But I'll pay for it later when the coughing starts. :D

Thanks Steve. Ive a full gpz750 stashed away,so think i might just use that.
It'll save me some money! For once. :D
This weekend Ive become involved in a landspeed (oh yeah!)bike for Pendine in June, and a one off thing, which will be seen on more than one bike magazine cover, centre pages and more. Im probably too busy to mess with any more sh*t of my own. :D
Im still going to do bits and pieces for myself, getting things ready, refurbed, painted polished etc as needed,so when the project starts,it can be done in double quick time.
Then theres my GSX EFE (or three),3 HUC chops to do,several other bikes to do bits on.....
I need a manager to come and keep me on track. My time management sucks. :D
