Z1000A1 REBUILD........

Hi All,
Now that my Garage is finally sorted, no water coming in anymore, harrah!!! a new floor and all painted up, I have finally started this week stripping down my Z1000, the frame and all black bits will be going off to powdercoaters, nicks of bristol, all nuts bolts will be rezinc etc, I have a few new bits and bobs that will be going on, the paint is fine, so wont be touching that, so should keep me busy for a little while, the bike is in fairly good nick, so should"nt be too hard, engine is also good, so dont need to touch that either,

What are those scissors on the floor in the foreground? They look a bit wierd. What have you been doing with them??

Hi Andy,

Didn't think yours really needed anything doing to it, but will be following with interest. Hopefully going to be staring mine within the next week or so.

Should be two more nice shiny Z's in Southampton once we are finished

Fortunately they are not my neighbors, that is where the bike came from near oxford 4 or 5 years back.........the bike was in Oxford Classic H**** for a few weeks before I purchase it......

Well the engine is now out. Jesus its kin heavy I got my son to help me, its ok , he is 19... I layed the frame on its side on to old carpets blankets etc to avoid any damage after every thing else has been removed, and then bit of wiggling, bit more wiggling the frame lifted off so now can get on with rest of cleaning checking bits before sending them off to be powdercoated zinc plating etc........

Well, I have finally manage to get all my bits over to Nicks at griff"s, for powdercoating zinc plating etc, Taken me 6+ weeks, due to either bad weather, snow or being ill twice but now thing can move along, and soon as I get the bits back will start building the bike back up....

Well I have finally got started on the rebuild, slow but moving along nicely now, I have just put a few bits and bobs on the frame, making sure all bit in right p[lace etc..

The zinc'd bits look superb, do the threads get zinc'd as well / is it tight fitting when re-assembling the zinc'd bits?

I've just recently removed the engine from the frame on mine; had to do it
on me jack jones though, but I found a way of doing it quite simply...

I bricked up underneath the engine only,
also with a pair of car tripod thingy's borrowed off a mate, thus taking the weight off the engine mounts, by the way I raised the frame with engine
to the brick 'tower' height with me Eazy Rizer lift > http://www.on-bike.com/products_bigblue.htm <

So, with the engine weight off the frame, removed all the mounting
bolts 'n' plates, tilted frame backwards a bit to remove tripod thingy's,
then tilted clutch side a bit until I could remove wood deck slice
from beneath the engine, kicking out bricks bit by bit keeping wood slice in with a bit of tricky balancing until near enough
to the floor, then jiggled out of frame rolling clutch side onto old chunky
cushion foam, then you'll see the rest in the video, raising it on to the
cabinet

I'll post this on the 'Projects' section too, may help others.

The engine is flipping ..........................ing heavy, so I have decided that to make the job easier, to strip the engine, get cases blasted and then put bottom end back in in 1st, and I can check all is ok....

the rezinc nut/bolts etc, go in no probs, maybe the odd one, but I just run a tap or die over it, then fine no probs......

Glad the rezinc nuts/bolts refitting went well...
Good way to refit the engine in the frame that; bottom end in first...
