I am restoring a 1982 KZ1000 j2. The original tank is beyond repair and a replacement is needed.Looking at the microfiche for the bike I see two styles of tank. Part numbers are 51001 A/B or 51001/D...

http://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1982-kz10 ... ml#results

I am trying to source a new/replacement tank and am told a GPZ1100 tank will fit but NOT a tank from an ELR..

Can anyone tell me which tanks from which models will fit directly onto my bike....

Thanks.

Z1100ST is a straight fit. GPZ and ELR as well, ELR or GPZ (don't know which is which, as I have both and both are none standard colours - so no chance of deciphering which is which) give issues with the clearance of petcock and carbs.

Cheers,
Greg

thanks

Hi Toim,

I have a GPZ1100 tank, it was fitted to a Z1100R, so it should work on your Z1000J.

Where are you, it would be best to try it to make sure, but postage would be quite steep, if they'll take it at all smelling of petrol!

Cheers,

Mark.

Ive a z1000j tank in the loft,as well as a gpz11b1/b2 one. The z1000j one is different i think on the underside,as one had carbs, one fuel injection. But,i stand to be corrected. :D
I could do a deal if your interested? :D
Ive also a z1000st tank,if you wanted to go touring. :D
