All the very best for your new project and for the quest of all NOS parts I hope
Carrying out a full resto on these bikes is becoming more and more difficult as the NOS parts stream has become a trickle.

Good luck with her Dave,

Some nice USA style mods on there :!:

Sure you will soon have her all minted back up.

Don't forget some nice pics of the key stages for my scrap book

Do we have to call you plain old "Dave Z1" from now onwards :?:

Supose calling myself DaveZ1A was a bit short sighted when I joined the club seeing as I am now a Z1 owner now instead of a Z1A owner

Shortsighted? not really Dave,

I think the faux pas could be recovered -

Restore the engine without black paint and fit a 74 paint scheme and your guilty little secret will be safe mate

There is no DaveZ1 registered, so if you want your name changing it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Sounds like a plan GB. How do I go about doing that?

The strip down to this stage only took around three or four sessions all pretty straight forward with no major concerns.
Theres a lot less parts that can be restored on this one compared to the Z1A I did last time ie Master cylinder and lid damaged
clocks need a lot of bits replacing, Front footpegs and brackets are missing courtesy of the police style running boards mod
Positives though are : oil tank and pump are present  all the major chromework is good to replate rims are almost
good enough to just respoke, the frame is nice and straight with no bits hacked off and although the tank is Z1B Hutchy recons
he can sort the badge hangers for the correct small badges and a couple of small dings when he does the paint set for me.
Havent decided on the colour yet.... another Jaffa or Egg and cress. :fou

I've got to find a couple of donor bits to restore the switch blocks though the Hi/Lo switch Knob is broken off
and the kill switch is buggered and been shorted out so I've just stripped to the shells and bead blasted them ready for paint.

Are you going to get the frame checked in a jig by a professional it will cost you about £100.00 for the piece of mind before you start spending all that ££££.
I see it has the early type of cam chain tensioner what range is the engine number in?
I will be watching this resto with great interest.

Done some basic geometric checks on the frame Steve and that coupled with the fact there is no evidence to suggest
the bike has had any major trauma leads me to think the frame is good to go. :up
Frame and engine numbers are about the middle of the Z1s production Z1F-11823 Z1E-11843
The frame and swinger are cleaned down ready to go to the sandblasters / painters. The engine top end strip is completed
and only managed to shear 5 of the 8 exhaust studs  even after applying blowtorch and 40 quids worth of stud extractor

Managed to round off the pan head screw fixing the front cam chain guide...... time to call it a night me thinks :beer2
Any suggestions on how to get that bugger out gratefully accepted

Further depressed myself when after 30 mins of putting some of the "bits and pieces" I need in my Z-Power shopping cart
glanced at the running total of £932 and still lots to buy......
time to get drunk.
