And i will explain also in detail as time goes on where the ideas and inspirations come from..the love i have for this whim i bought,if you want to call me robbing your ideas, then do not put them up here in the first place.
This forum is about sharing idea's and a bloody great so many have brill ideas and adverse views to a great line Kawaski produced and still is King really i think.
(On a adjacent note The Atari St Series stopped production in 93 but go on ebay and see the prices paid for a falcon,a tt030 mega ste nearly 30 yrs later its no more dead than the Z1)
Its nice to see the fantastic projects that about this site you see,but whilst dam fine work there is no explanation of the thought and soul that goes into the what you see finished.
This work is an art and a selfish projection even, that is oh so personal to every individual so let my story unfold as i explain, and hopefully you will enjoy the story as i have had the pleasure of being allowed to tell it..and its work in progress
I was browsing eBay a year last July 2010 and on a whim searched GPZ 1100 and found this.

Read up the specs..
1260 piston kit,cams as of yet unknown,38mm Mikuni's,Zxr 750 forks and running gear,Jmc Zzr1100 swing arm
120/70 front,180/55 rear.Cobra stainless exhaust.
Just all the things i wanted to add years ago to my one and only Z9A4 i was drooling whilst this was about £3- 600 more than a std GPZ 1100 in good shape etc that week this was the one motor i wanted.I paid £1700 tight git, knocked him down £50 and he threw in a years MOT..
But this was not as any project is,its not the money, its what you see,the potential etc, etc, its the love for what you can see it become, the fact you induce your being into a what was std becoming a projection of yourself.
Doing amazing unthought beforehand idea's.

So i bought it..
So i flew in the old gal from the states for a ride n drive up to Aberdeen, had cash with me so hence the extra security, and she loved riding aswell

Night in Hamilton got there Tuesday Morning to find the bike failed MOT with throttle probs on the previous Thursday but got it through on the Friday.
I might have been out of it a while but when the guy said Mikuni's only have one cable,i knew this was going to be difficult,it still was having throttle problems as revving and letting off it still was revving its nuts off (and as we know the vacuum holds the slides open with Mikuni's(dumkoff)),it would not shut off,so made him fit a 2nd throttle cable.Problem solved.
From the last tax its been standing 3yrs,which likely explains a lot.
Took it for a test drive and bought it.
And onwards home to Cardiff 525 miles..Back over to Hamilton for a stop over after filling up with oil..it was a oil guzzler aswell

Wednesday
Just got into riding it,and found i could run it off the clock so easy had some fun beween the oil stops,at least the oil light worked.
Got down to M6-M5 juction and it went on two cylinders
The at the time thought the coil had burnt out, turned out to be the ignitor off the dyna module had failed 425 miles and 4 litres of oil.
Thankfully unbeknown Carole Nash had included breakdown service,a phone call and 30 mins later it was in the van and i was in the car having pleasure driving...

Thursday
Checked the bike on thursday, and came up with this to do list and conclusions.
I was totally unprepared,my old leathers were useless, they are retired officially..so bought new gloves and a jacket, unreservedly not a leather, jeese the gloves were knocked down to a 100 smackers, gonna be an expensive slap there somewhere heh heh.but i do admit they are the dogs bollocks and are comfortable and keep the wind out,and the jacket, not leather but dam its good, got that off eBay as the local shop at bridgnorth had sent a blue one back the day before and i had no time to wait, went over to eBay got the same 1/2 price, paid a fiver extra for express at 4pm and got it 8.30 next morning.

Oh and let me say i love my slippers they travel just as much as i do heh heh

I never checked tyre pressures, why i nearly felt i was going to fall off on a roundabout,
When i did i had 20 odd in them both, and i reckon going on zzr1100 for weight and similar size tyres 42 front and back then checking it seemed to vary between 35 and 42 so i did them both at 35 and it was loads better the next i rode.

Did not check the oil level although it would not have made much difference as it seems 100 miles a litre is the norm.
Whilst whoever built it had money and a good idea,it was badly put together, maybe why it was sold.
A vibration about the ass after 100 all the way to off the clock.
Evidence of the chain rubbing the tyre.

A chain as straight like a python's not

6mm bolts that diddly shit for fork stops

But i loved it,fast as stink, needs tlc,it will never be concours,a little off tatty but functional, its a 25yr old motor and shows some of it,just the way i like it..
Needed a faster speedo i want evidence what it'll do never mind just off the clock so i got a zzr 1100 set to fit sometime, ditched that idea since seeing GB's project

GB's inspired electronic speedo, which is patiently waiting to be fitted

There are a lot of fine projects about this forum that are inspiring to change idea's and unadshamedly i will copy them and apply them here,so if you see something similar to your project have that warm feeling that it was a good idea and i copied it,and i say thank you very much
Remove the poxy alloy cover of the cooler.

Oil cooler now looks like an oil cooler, will replace bolts with stainless and replace perished rubbers

Change the points inner case with one that was suitable for the Dyna S Module.

Do something about the steering lock bolts, tried these but 6mm thread will not do it so have to beef it up to 10/12mm studs, seen some nice stops on one of the many bikes here so will do something like that eventually

I bought a centre stand to find it was missing a lug (Duh)

So this will be on the way to GaryD at Xmas time
So bought a nice set of race stands, with modifications fitted nicely

Investigate the Grand Canyon oil spill, check compression.

When i did get to check i got like 130 psi across the board, but was not satisfied with how i was doing the check/and the gauge so i just put it down and will worry about that another time.
Sort of guessed with standing 3yrs the valve oil seals were likely hard as diamonds
So was thinking to ge one of these

To do the valve seals without head off..
But in reality i think the head must come off eventually to check piston rings and condition of valves etc.
The motor weeped a little oil aswell..but not into a big strip just want to run it some first.
Fit some stainless bolts to replace rusties..
In the September i received as per the sellers word (BreakingPointLtd)a brand new Dyna Ignition Module.

But no time to fit,a week turn around in and back to Venezuela does not leave a lot of time for the feet to touch the ground)
Next time was Xmas and no way i was taking it out never mind work on it.
Its kept outside with a cover not ideal but will look at a big shed sometime..
Then it was March and i had filled my mates place up with eBay bits,so had to go pick them up(i rent a car for a week or so when i get back)
I had been busy since March and June, buying on eBay
Had a good conversation with 1015Zed i think, about Wisco rings and grade of oil.
It had 10/40 in so decided to get go for 20/50 Morris oil, used to run that in the z9 i had before, see if it helped,it did not as it turned out,but it got an oil filter change aswell.

Tidied up the oil breather hose

One of my pet hates,i have many is hose clips on hose's less than 3/4",i think they look untidy.

So Back in June had some good off time,it was 2 weeks but i went sick the 3rd heh heh
So tidied up the fuel lines,at least it had a pingle tap fitted.

Got some nice piping for the overflow tubes

Other stuff from the eBay garage, and will explain later

Just had to have the blue grease aswell

ColourTune kit

Transducers for the oil pressure and fuel pressure eventually.
These were a steal, paid £20 for used to be a $300 a pop and they came with a calibration certificate

Another idea i saw Was that GB's project aswell..thanks pal

Trouble was the frigging seller never marked the decimal clearly, paid 10x the value to the custom bandits

Gaskets

Another tardy finish

My style of plate

But planning a digital one

Found NGK plugs, never had bother ever with them and at the price these were cheap as chips

What i did not realise there are two styles of the same grade plug, one has the the nipple at the top fixed, and the other has the nipple removable which is how they are for the Kwak,so be aware if you go that way of course
(I will add pictures later to fill the lines )
