Z1000-A4 -Mk2

Yesterday I told you all I was getting a new Zed, it had been a while, and I was really needing one. Well I found this on the net....
And arranged to have a look on Wednesday this week, well the weather was great today, so I moved the whole thing forward a couple of days, and as of right now, my new Z1000 is sitting in the back of my van.
The damp winter has got to the bike a little, but then that helped me get the price down a fair bit, which is nice.
So let me tell you some thing about the bike, and then I will load a few pictures.
It is a genuine UK bike, and as unlikely as this sounds, it was sold way back in 1980, from a Kawasaki garage that was 6 doors away from my front door!

It has only had two owners, and has done just 35K.

Ok then todays update.......
The bike is now out of the van and sitting in my local garage, I have asked them to give it all a once over, as I intend to run it as it is this summer, before doing any major work, if at all possible.
So after work I dropped by, to ask if they wanted me to order any bits from zpower, before they start looking at the bike. But as I was there, they had to play, so off with the tank, on with a remote fuel cell, connect up a set of jump leads direct to the battery cables (no battery fitted yet) and it burst into life, although the carbs were leaking badly.
The only thing that never worked was the horn, and the high beam indicator bulb.
And it sounded great, no rattles from the clutch or cam chain, and it never even smoked that bad on start up, so things is looking pretty good right now, I hope my run of luck continues...

Get them carbs stripped and in the ultrasonic bath,re-built with new parts as required and away you go

I have ordered full rebuild kits for the carbs, so they should come through customs pretty quick, I also ordered a pair of throttle cables today too. But was unable to get a Barnett clutch cable as Debben no longer stock them

Sounds promising so far. I had some carb kits delivered from Z1 enterprises in less than a week, hope yours are as quick. Also recently tried to get hold of a Barnett clutch cable from Debbens, got the same answer. I tried Googling them, but couldn't find a thing.... real shame as they were the dog's doo dah's.

Looks like a good start to be on the road quickly.
Thats what I thought when I bought my MK2 at Cristmas!
First thing I had to do was replace a couple of fouled plugs to get it running.
Two hundred yards down the road on the first ride and the clutch cable broke!
A quick hunt in the spares box produced another cable and with a quick lube its ready to fit.Off with the cover remove the old cable, fit the replacement,pop the cover back on and find the two long cover bolts had been stuck in with some grey todge! Stripped and damaged cases!
So then I had to remove the engine and totally stip it to weld up and repair the damage.
Found the usual amount of stripped threads and snapped bolts in the disassembly.
So now i`ve had the crank stripped, checked, re-built and welded. Got a 1075 kit to go in, will need a new camchain and rollers and probably everything else usually needed for an engine rebuild!
It will still need a re-spray, lots of fasteners etc, so my relatively cheap on the road bike, ready to enjoy, has now become the major project I didn`t need.

Good luck for your MK2 project, Kev. I am sure you will like MK2 more than anything once it is done.
(No disrespect to other bikes at all. I have Z1 and H**** too but Mk2 hit my deepest spot recently. )

My next project will be Z1 engine recond.
Took Z1 engine out while I was in Japan and will do complete job next few months.
