It's taken a while but this old '72 Z1 is beginning to emerge from its slumber. This bike was manufactured in '72 & more than likely on day 2 of the production run.
I'll share a few random images as I begin assembly.
Cylinder head: Missing fins replaced, combustion chambers repaired, new guides, seats, valves etc
CLICK on the cyl head image for slideshow
Barrels: New STD liners, mating face ground etc..

Strangely enough it looks the Bolloxs

Just wondered if you used Etch primer? I`ve cleaned/Vapour blasted a set of cases, then sprayed with Thinners.then used PJ1 Satin black.Engine not in frame yet so wondered how it will stand up to stone chips/U.K.weather? To Etch or not to Etch?
   should this be another thread?

				This is
the paint to use in my opinion - Sperex Tough Black Satin.
A 'Super Tough Polyurethane Paint' they call it... and it's the dogsbollocks indeed.
I have painted may engines and cycle parts with this stuff. It adheres to aluminium alloy based materials in the most unbelievable way.
I also always use this on fork legs and reservoirs in particular, because of its anti-stone chip properties, it's super tough indeed. After 28,000 miles I only have about 8 stone chips on the fork legs of my Suzuki VS800, which is rode in all weathers.!
I really can not reccomend it highly enough.! Even Paul Scanlon commented on how good the finish of the engine was on my Silver Saxon.... and he's a fussy bugger

As for application, I always warm the component to be painted, then clean it with Prosolve (brake spray). Warm the paint, then as soon as coat has been applied, immediately 'satinize' it with a hair dryer, and stick the parts in the house.
