Z1000r

#1 PostAuthor: 1beelee » Thu Sep 03, 2009 2:34 pm

Just picked up an 83 Z1000r in euro colours :D Made room for her with the sale of my vfr :|
The plan is to restore her to her former glory keeping as close to standard as we can.I'm going to see if I can get her running this weekend, carbs off cleaned and some fresh fuel and then she'll have to be stored for a wee while till our KR1s project is finished.
I've known about the bike for a while but thought I had too much going on to take her on.Then I saw the nice ELR's at the scottish rally when I was up on the Z1b,that got me thinking, went to see the bloke who is an old work mate, did the deal, and thats that.As they say.

Oh I don't know PJ it's a very flattering photo.I took it this afternoon and when I saw it on the laptop I thought you could easily mistake it for a much cleaner bike.
There's abit to do.lot of wear and tear she's done 54,000.My main concern at the minute are the brakes two out of three bleed nipples snaped off,and I know there will be some other surprises along the way.
I'm pleased with her though our KR1s was a reet knacker and she's coming along nicely.Time money and patience, never seem to have enough of any

Very nice 1Beelee..... I'm gonna take another look at mine this weekend, and yours has given me a bit me enthusiasm

As for your brakes, the calipers are unique to the Lawson Reps.... so you can't swap them with other models... unless you don't mind lack of authenticity :!:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Taffus, I do believe the caliper mounts are alloy... not steel.... :??

But, perhaps it was the "J" that had the steel jobbies & the Lawson & GPz had alloy :?:

Very nice. Those bikes cost a mint over here and none come in those colors! No shortage of rep knockoffs though.

I was looking at some GPZ calipers today and thought they looked the same :?? (different mount tho).I will have to get them off and do a proper comparison.Or spark up the parts michrofiche
I said I was'nt going to touch the thou till the wee KR1s was finished, but I'm being drawn in  I think I will have to have a partial strip down just to have an idea of whats going to be needed then I can be on the lookout for bits.
I really will have to do the KR1s first tho

Just checked and the carriers are alloy (GPz 1100 B1, used a strong magnet) roughly 73 mm between centres for the mounting bolts (steel  )
