I have developed a oil leak from the wires that come out of the alternator cover. What i need to know is can i remove the cover to seal it up without draining the oil.

I am fitting a new alternator loom. What i need to know is what should i use to seal the rubber gromet in the casing as silicon seems to break down with the oil.
