Gonna resume work on the Kawasaki in the days to come.

Bought a front wheel spindle on eBay for £10 which I got the other day so I sat down with senior tonight and had look at how we're going to sort out the speedo.

Fortunately, the H**** forks only use a 20mm front spindle which makes converting the original Mk.II speedo drive easy. Just open up the hole a bit more and fix some grooves in the hubs on the Astralites and it's good to go. Gonna start sorting that out tomorrow hopefully.

Also swapped over my fully adjustable Ohlins shocks to the Mk.II since my Suzuki won't see the road this year. Better to put them to good use than have the seals dry up on a halted project.

Might also start doing some bodywork in the weeks to come. Just got to convince dad that a nice metallic blue is the way to go for a resto-mod Mk.II, not a red. :D

Started fiddling with the electrics a bit the other day...

More to come hopefully next week.

Also gonna place an order from Japan on some parts by the end of the month. Some new switch gear and a seat among other things.

Gonna get this build back on track in the coming weeks. Today I placed a £500 order from Webike Japan.

New seat from PMC, new sidepanels and tailpiece as well as some new switchgear. Also got myself some nice looking engine mounts from BULLDOCK. Should arrive sometime in the coming weeks.

Next payday I'm gonna order a 4-1 Nitro Racing exhaust. :)

Also gonna look into designing a new rear hub with a modern sprocket carrier to fit a 520/530 chain.

Feels like a long time since I updated the build thread... *looks at the date* ...oh, it was a long time...

Anyway, now I'm back at it.

The KTM RC8R is sold and now I'm putting some of the money towards finishing this project.

Yesterday, I ordered a set of Keihin CR carbs and a 4-1 Nitro Racing handbent exhaust from Japan. Hopefully they'll arrive in not too distant future.

Got to measure out a new hub for the rear wheel and fit some spacers to the front wheel to get it centered. After that I'm going to take some measurements for some custom brake discs and send that info to ISR.

Ordered some new switchgear from Germany as well as a repair-kit for the stator (new cables). The switchgear I ordered from Japan didn't look that great. Fortunately, they were cheap.

I'm gonna do some work on the bike today, probably change the engine mountings to the ones I ordered from BULLDOCK. I'll see if I can throw up a picture or two later today.

Nice parts :drool

Intersting about the switchgear though. I thought everything out of japan was the best stuff!! May I ask who supplied them?

Note to self...go back and re-read this topic

So, we (me and my old man) managed to get some work done today. Yesterday we figured out the spacers for the front wheel and made sure everything was centered and today we went to the workshop at my old mans workplace and borrowed the lathe.

I managed to find a 28x4mm seamless hydraulic tube which was perfect as a spacer for the front wheel. It was just a matter of cutting a 30mm long spacer and then we were done.

Back home we put everything in place and tightened up the wheel axle bolt. Seems to fit together pretty well.

Image

Original speedo gear took some mods to fit but overall it wasn't a terribly difficult operation.

And since the front wheel was now properly attached to the bike and the rear wheel actually rolling, why not take the bike out in the sun to see how it looks from a few meters away?

(old man holding the front end up since the forks have no / little oil in them)

Image

I couldn't be happier with the way the bike looks. Brutal stance and the forks, swingarm and wheels look spot on. A proper muscle bike. Can't wait to get some paint on it.

Vroom vroom!

Going to figure out what to do with the rear wheel next. Make new hubs with a modern sprocket carrier or use the one I already have and ask if Paul at Astralite has some spare parts and sprockets for it.

And I got an email from Japan the other day. The exhaust and carbs will be shipped out early July so there's still plenty of time to sort the rest of the bike out until then.

Paul will make up any sprocket you like and will also supply the bushes for the cush drive if that is what you have got.
I think the sprocket and bushes together was around the £100 mark, delivered.

Which type of rear hub is it?

It's one of these Al.

If he can make them, and for that price, it would be a huge help. I sent him an email a second ago.

That looks identical to mine including the outer retaining disk. Might be as well to supply the PCD measurements as although it looks the same it also looks smaller somehow.
I have a sprocket here (secondhand) with old bushes in. How many teeth and what pitch are you aiming for?

The bushes are yellow when new by the way :D
They also have shoulders on them that wrap around the holes in the sprocket.

That sounds promising!

I've supplied him with all the measurments he needs. I'm looking at a 530 chain with a 38 or 40 tooth sprocket. Haven't really looked at the gearing yet, just want to make sure I can get everything to fit. :D

The bushes are:

25mm outside diameter (to fit the holes in the sprocket)
19mm inside diameter
9mm wide

Thanks a bunch for the info Al.

Fairly sure the one i have is 35 , 36 or 37 tooth 530.
It was on a Z1R. I have gone for 45 tooth because the J gearing is different to the Z1R. J's have massive rear sprockets as standard.
Dont know where it is just now but will try to find and photograph it, if it helps in any way.
