Having finished bead blasting the head I noticed there was some damage in the bit where the bucket sits on one valve-

At this late stage I decided to carefully dress it and keep my fingers crossed!

I decided to polish the ends of the cam cover. They were surprisingly scabby and I had to remove plenty of material with the 2" air sander first

came up OK in the end

Next was time for masking up the engine for paint and I started with the cam box

LAst time I sprayed a head I found the old plugs I used to fill the plug holes made getting paint into the fins even harder that it was already, so this time I machined up some placcy plugs; only bummer was that the only stock I had was 50mm round bar

Just the job when screwed in though !

The carbs were pretty shitty;

I had originally decided to paint them, but after I had used paint stripper, jizer and a swim in the ultrasonic tank I decided that they were OK naked. I don't like painting carbs; to make the paint stick well they need to be bead blasted, and whilst I have done it in the past, I don't like blasting carb bods

In a moment of madness I splashed out on a genuine set of carbs rubbers:

Saturday morning I bundled all the paints, spray guns etc in the van and all the masked up engine bits and drove to one of my customers factory where they have a spray booth they let me use from time to time. I used an etch primer with no build or filler making it non-porous. Was a very strange paint to use; although it went on very thin, I used 500mls of mixed paint. I kept the top coat pretty thin, but still massively thicker than the primer, but only actually used about 300mls. Not sure that makes any sense really!

In the van ready to head home

I'm now removing all the masking; doesn't take as long as making it up, but takes more time than you'd think!
Took a shed load of wire wheeled/bead blasted parts over to the platers today. They said they'll be at least a fortnight

I took all the gears from the 1000J ltd box I had and fitted them onto the shafts from the eleven.
Hopefully the frame will come back soon and the build can begin,
