As far as I'm aware, only aftermerket sump plugs were/are magnetic.

the bakerlight stuff is one of the pads/bushes from the can chain parts(Probably). They go hard after a few years.

The only thing I know of in the engine like that spring is the spring from the cam chain tensioner.(THIS IS WRONG...that spring is far too small)

The other bits probably fell in when the muppet was messing around with the cams.

All speculation of course.

All the earlier models had non magnetic plugs for sure, as said I think only aftermarket ones are magnetic. the dowel and spring remnants are from the starter clutch, Bakelite stuff could of at one time been damper rubbers or cam chain guide blade, obviously with all that shite in there your doing the right thing by going through it all now.

Hi Freddy,

Re: Barrels overbored, if you remove some of the carbon off the
crown of one of the pistons, there should be a number stamped
showing if it's over-size, e.g. my Z900 had been overbored
by only first size over-bore, the piston crowns were stamped 0.50

You're doing a great job with the pics etc. Freddy, well done mate :up

As Steve Cooke has suggested, the springs look similar to the starter clutch ones in size. If the cylindrical metal object is hollow at one end and the springs fit inside - it could possibly be one of the roller pushers from the starter clutch.

The deposits on the piston crowns look very thick and white-ish - if it's crumbly and flakey - I would suspect it to be burnt oil - valve stem seals? bore wash?

Thanks for the replys chaps.
the starter clutch =spring and dowel, makes sense as that is what I was told was fu**ed before the strip down.
the 'bakerlite' shards, I'm none the wiser. I've looked at different parts in the engine today and nothing resembles it. (I'll have to get the manual out tomorrow to try and identify the parts you've mentioned).
Jay whats the best way to remove the 'carbon' deposits on top of the pistons?

The last couple of days has pretty much been spent getting 'paint parts' ready for the painter.
I'm going to post in 'bike help' for anyone who has got a good picture of a z1100st A1, preferably in 'luminous navy blue', maybe a sales brochure?
If anyone can help with a pic that'd be great :up

These are the side panels I bought from LPM, (jerry sorted the discounted purchase, thankyou), after I lost one of mine somewhere down Evesham way? The other original is a poorly repaired example.

the LPM panels imo are better quality than the originals ( not for the rivet counters, i know). The lugs are properly braced =no real weak spots :up

The rear mudguard that was on the bike. Loads of black paint and the inevitable rust. I think this is a none uk (short) mudguard.

This is the UK / euro spec (longer) mudguard. Which I acquired from germany. I think this is off an A3 ( due to the colour)

You will notice the extra 2 holes lower down (on the UK mudguard), which is for the 'reflector bracket'.
(I need a reflector and it's bracket if anyone has one 4 sale?)

This is the 'black us spec' mudguard after it's had much grinding, stripping and then in the shot blaster to remove all the rust.

The front mudguard on the bike was a rather fetching chrome number.
I managed to get an NOS front mudguard in 'luminous navy blue' for the A1 model.
Unfortunately, it has several shop soiled marks/scratches. It does mean that we have an exact colour match and striping template. ( my painter has never done an 1100st before).

The tank has a little interior and exterior corrosion. There was quite a bit of black shit inside.
