Todays major project was to get the back wheel to fit. I had to machine new spacers for the spindle.
I made these from some stainless blagged from a local engineering company I do work for. Sadly I could only get 50mm so I had a lorra turning for an ickle lathe!
Here's the drilling before boring-
Here's the parting off the hard way
and here's the finshed job ready to be inserted.
Here's some pics of the project as of today :-

Tank, side panels and tailpiece are now finished:
They're not perfect but the quality of the painting is good and should last. I was about to stick the badges on and I realised how scummy they are. One side might paint up but the other has chunks out of it so I will have to try and get another pair
Any one any idea of any one banging out repos cheap?

Finally got a set of shox today from flea bay.
I took a pic of the rear brake master cylinder pokey up doofer, which I made to replace the scabby looking article that came off the old gurl. I couldn't get a castellated nut at the bike show, so it looks as though I'll have to make one. It's jest gorra be stainless!
Every day she gets that bit closer to being on the road
, and every day I find something else I've gorra spend money on

I dunno whether the spacers I've got fit what. - sorry for the English- I blame the single malt I am taking on medical grounds - don't want to get a cold!
You are very welcome to the spacers. I don't want anything for them ... just glad to help someone out. Do you want me to measure 'em to see if they'll fit your bike. they were fine with my original wheels, but wre no good with the gen kwak mags. Now the million dollar question has to be "were they the original spacers that worked with the wire wheels?" I can't answer that but, have digi calipers so can easily measure 'em.
I would be very happy for them to be part of a bike again, rather than part of my ridiculously lareg pile of stuff I'll never ever want but don't want to chuck just in case. The current bride is constantly abusing me for this. I have beem trying to let it overflow into her garage and I got away with a few pieces by mumbling "can I just pop this in yer garage while I get it reay for e-bay". She knows me to well and has translated it into "I've got sooooo much shite in my workhsop I can bear to throw out / sell, that it's getting in my way can I now fill up your garage with my shite?"
I guess most of you are un/happlily married so are polly under the cosh a bit more, but I'm sure you must recognise the sentiment. I tried marriage once - it didn' agree wiv me ... the current bride is a family lawyer who's tried it twice and also thinks the whole deal sucks

Popped the head and barrels on today. I'll have to get a bit o graft done this weekend as I need the workshop clean and tidy for that abomination that pays for Zed bitz - work
In the words of that most fine fellow Oscar Wilde - "work is the curse of the drinking classes"
I decided that Mr Kwaka's idea of hanging 28 million bullet connections under the tank to connect the handle bar switches to the main loom was 'orrible so I've used multi blocks instead. A tad tidier I hope you'll agree.
I gave up on getting the coloured connectors for the centre loom bit so had to join the loom to the old plugs. The green 'un was properly dog 'n' duck'd so I ripped the one off Shaun's Zed thou which was't actually connected to anything. I explained to him that the decrease in weight would improve his performance and that I was doing him a favour
I have pretty much finished the main loom now, I just have to tether it when I have everything else in place.
From the other side -
Bit of rivet shitting earlier. I had just finished the valve timing and decide d to giv the engine a few revs before re-checking the valve timing. There was a nasty noise coming from the kick start bit and then it locked up solid. On the basis that the business end required a crankcase split to get at you can image imagine the sphincter clenching that was happening. I decided tat I should remove the kick start cover. The spring was a complete git to get out as was the aluminium split sleeve. Having extricated these two bits I started looking closely at it and after realising the the business end was working fine I finally realised the teh spring should have been tensioned and one end poked in a holes in the shaft. This was glossed over in the workshop manual so I missed that bit out. Sometimes I think it's better to look at stuff and from what you see figure out how it works rather than following the manual blindly. Manuel he sometime taky the peesss. I often find the parts book more useful. Ultimately I think proper detailed isometric drawings and a list of torque settings etc would be better than the workshop manual.
