The 'Bargain Hunt' is certainly paying off, £15 for the swingarm!! Recon yer could sell the shocker and get yer money back there easily!

Powdercoat / paint it black after the welding an it'll look like new.

Rear wheel complete with disc & cush drive - another bargain.

Stick at it TLC this is sounding like it'll be a belter :up

Some garage action today. 1 step forward and several backwards sadly.

I already knew about this fin damage. Easily repaired by the experts. Of course the cam cap threads are as soft as butter. Nothing fully stripped but most will need to be sorted.

Not so easy, or cheap is this.

As your title says looks like its big bore time. Really feel for you Chris, some times these old bikes give you a real kick in the guts.

Not the best of Chrimbo suprises. Is that the result of a broken ring :?
I still need to sort the barrels out on my Uni-Trak (Snotter). Genuine oversize pistons seem unavailable. Most cost effective upgrade is an 1170cc Wiseco kit (Jeff at Z1enterprises would be a good place to start).
I have considered another couple of options, but not explored them properly;
1. Rebore a set of Z1000J (998cc) barels to fit your existing pistons & fit new rings (Thats if there is enough meat on the 998 liners).
2. Have new sleeves fitted by the like's of SEP & bore to suit existing pistons with new rings.
I'd be interested to hear if either option is viable. I may be able to help with pistons if yours are F.U.B.A.R.D.

Ouch!

As GB has said one option (keeping cost down) if the existing pistons are ok another set of barrels with new rings.
Noticed that rpeters had some for sale recently for a 'J' (is that where the frame came from you have?)

Might be worth a PM.

Progress is painfully slow but I now have the rear wheel and brake arrangement as I intended. I still need to get some spacers made and will do that fairly soon.

I really like the look of that Chris. I think you are right to take your time at this stage as it will pay off in the end. I know how frustrating it can be though when you can't seem to find the time to do anything. I guess work and family have to come first

Front wheel arrived today.

Now the fun I had with the back wheel can start all over again. Bearings are available to fit to the ZRX axle. Seals should be easy too. The 600FT model had electric speedo though so I may have to use the same speedo pick up idea GB had.

All good fun. Now then, does anyone have an early pair of Blackbird discs ?

So the front wheel has been pulled apart and inspected. The good news is its in really good nick and a bargain at £78 delivered. Bearings have been investigated and bought. I will need to build up and then machine the hubs to accept them together with the dust seals. This is only necessary because I want to use dust seals and since I am going that far I will investigate fitting a ZRX speedo drive.
Discs have been priced and it seems genuine is the best way to go. £300 the pair doesn't seem unreasonable.

Anyway, here is a dry fit.
