Hi Ludders

Looks like its nearly there. Looking at your original pictures I like the style and shape of the exhaust. Do you have any info on its origins or what it is.

i dont know about the down pipes but the silencer is a Kerker.

With the engine i was in a bit of a dilemma, strip, dont strip, it started instantly, and ran as sweet as a nut, BUT the cases, head and barrels were quite badly corroded and the carbs were'nt the best looking either.

SO...........i stripped it down ,i was glad i did that, NOT .
what was going to be a strip clean and re-assemble turned into quite a lot of work and ££££££££££ .
After stripping the whole bike i had one grub screw that rounded off , the engine i broke a seized bolt in the crank case and four inlet screws in the head




Now the task of getting the broken bit's out

Firstly i tried an easy-out, that was about as much use as chocolate chisel.


Then i MIG welded a nut on to it,, NO it broke of again, so i tried TIG welding a larger nut on and holding the power on at a lower amp to generate a lot of heat, hopefully to expand the bolt in the case thus breaking the seal, it worked, one down four to go.

You can see on the right hand bolt i built up weld before trying to weld on the nut.

All broken bolt's removed, thread's cleaned out with a tap it was of to the vapour blaster's, here is before and after.

Although i was happy to strip the engine and head i did'nt fancy putting it back together so i took all the boxes and bucket's to a man who can ( mike ).
After he had inspected the engine then came the news that MOST of the engine was good,the bore's being the best he had seen for a std engine of this age .

Then came the news of the head, the valves and seat's being some of the worst. .
The head was fully reconed, new valves, seat's, guides, and all chain roller's and tensioner's.

The engine now assembled and back where it belong's

Looks like a great job. I love that colour scheme, thinking of the same one myself, or the earlier Z1 with bigger yellow tank panels, or maybe the brown and orange.....?? Choices Choices!!
