word to the wise, a value cant be put on it until number matchings are ascertained, miss matched numbers will lower the value, im not just trying to bring a downer on things, would be a real shame to offer it on here then find out that the price people have suggested to you is off the mark.
Its a really nice job with and a UK bike found and restored is a nice start. :up

thanks for the ecouragment all, no pictures or progress to report as of now but I'm just waiting for the paint work to come back and i will post a picture (I've waited 3 & 1/2 months so far) i found the right man for the job and I'm prepared to wait (mark Hutchinson).
if I'm being honnest i really didn't know much about Zs before i took this on but after all the money spent I'm releived to discover it is a UK Z1000 and intruiged that everyone saying that is a rarity in itself?
Why is the UK Z1000 rare(er)?, id like to understand why.
thanks

the main thing is that for the purist buyer the UK z1000 is nearer to their dream of owning a piece of nostalgia, a bike that has been running around these very streets for 40+ years. Many more z1000's were made for the US market and many of those have been imported here, nothing at all wrong with the US bikes but they just weren't in these parts back in the day.

so.. a job i haven't been looking forward to..the carbs!

again something i have never done before so asked for a few quotes for vapour blasting and full strip and rebuild.... they ranged from £250-£600.. i mulled it over and thought "well I've done the rest of the bike myself, i might aswell learn to do carbs"!
I've bought some carb synchronizers, an ultra sonic cleaner (+ carb cleaning fluid) + plenty of little grip seal bags so i can label parts for each carb methodically (I'm fully aware i won't get a vapour blast finish) I'm just going to see how it goes but will probably get the boys blasted anyway.

here they are out of the box seeing light for the first time in 20 years (like everything else on the bike)

any tips on set up would be appreciated + do's and don't's

The Thou is not a rare bike as such. But original examples are pretty rare, and original UK examples are VERY rare, most have either been killed by their owners, our weather or turned into some hideous Streetfighter thing.

As you can see there are lots of differences between UK and US models. however unlike the Yank example, some of the parts that are unique the Brit model are not exactly available off the shelf and as such command big prices (long rear guard/ grab rail etc) so putting a bike back to proper UK spec is not just as easy as a phone call to Z-Power.

Also, as Mick alludes to, much of the market is driven by Nostalgia and as such many buyers want the bikes they lusted over in the 70's showrooms and are prepared to pay a premium for it.

It's interesting that everyone says the Holy Grail of Zed ownership is a 72 Yank Z1, yet I would MUCH sooner have a 73 UK model as these were not only 'our' bikes but were also MUCH rarer.
