Collected some parts today from the platers, 5am start and a 6 hour round trip.

The silver parts are finished in bright zinc, not chrome.

The bolts etc are zinc coated then 'blacked', they have a bluey rainbow effect to them but look just right on the bike.

I looked at an example of the olive drab when I was there that a few suggested would be the colour to go for, IMO certainly not right for a 1000R, far too green.

A few pics.

Its great to see this bike finally getting the treatment it deserves and your doing a nice job Paul, but I can't help wondering why you've decided to paint the gloss black parts (engine covers) and semi gloss parts (foot holders) matt black after puzzeling so much about the bolt finishes?

:??

had to ask

The camera maybe makes parts look matt black but all the parts have been re finished in satin, I think the powder coated frame makes them appear duller, I've never been a fan of gloss stuff and I'm not chasing 100% originality.

Your right though, the bike certainly needed rebuilding properly.

Going to look sweet and I prefer them a little more Matt too
Yes it's quite amazing to find a bike that hasn't been touched in 30 years.

Well just a quick report

Cylinder head took a lot of cleaning back to bare metal, Nitromors ain't what it used to be, anyway it was then taken to the local machine shop for a quick over haul as it was in good nick. I got four NOS intake valves from the US for a very good price so these were fitted and the exhaust all cleaned up, seats sorted and new valve stem seals.

All the threads were cleaned and re-taped, luckily no snapped bolts anywhere and a fresh coat of satin black.

Then it was time to fit new rings to new pistons, bit pissed off as two pistons are still AWOL in the post which is holding up further assembly.

Need to get tank and panels sent to Flying Tiger soon for paint ....colour ???

White, Green or 1100R blue ...
