Made some progress over the last few weeks, bought another rear calliper from a gsx600f with the bleed nipple at the top rather than the bottom like the sv650 one which has now made its way onto my dr600 SM. also fitted a neat little hydraulic brake light switch the rear master cylinder

Also rebuilt the nissins on the front and fitted new EBC HH pads and will be replacing the niscs with new EBC items as a Christmas present to myself

So now both front and rear brakes are bled and functional, so went on to fit both the span adjustable leavers and new renthal grips (because I'm a sucker for a bit of bling)

Also decided to use the gauge pod from the 1100 UT and will be keeping the Tachometer but have gutted the cable driven speedo side in favour of fitting the Koso speedo inside the GPZ cluster

And I brought an oil cooler from a zephyr 1100 as it has the same fittings as the UNITRAK so in theory should allow me to use standard GPZ oil cooler take-offs and the standard cooler lines which will save me big £££ braided hoses and AN fittings etc Image

Much bigger and in better condition, just needs a quick lick of paint.

Does that oil cooler fit on ok?
There is not so much room between the frame tubes and the front mudguard at full compression as there is on the 1100 frame.

The thing is, one of the reasons the 650 handled better was because the headstock is more compact than its bigger brothers, so on balance if you can get it all to fit ok then you end up with a better bike.

To your advantage the original 650 had a bigger front wheel- but even with your front wheel it's worth a good check to make sure everything misses ok.

My experience was that I needed a small oil cooler- oh and the resultant bike 650/1100 is a brilliant machine.

I had to stretch the back wheel out a bit too (1.5 inch over length), as the 650 swing arm makes the bike a bit wheelie prone. It'll lift the front wheel in first on the throttle only, but its pretty manageable now.

I have also squeezed the original 650 airbox on mine too, this has made the bike run much sweeter. Here's a pic from my 2014 holiday. Excuse the sissy bar and hard luggage frame.... wife prefers the highest comforts of life!

To be honest ive not even test fitted it yet, by just eyeing it up it should be alright, because the cooler isnt very tall but gets its extra surface are through its width

Like I said, my big front wheel was a pain- yours should fit it all in better.
At one point I thought the tyre might actually trap between the middle two exhaust down tubes under heavy braking. That would have been a surprise!

Always worth checking the oil cooler- that bugger caught me out.
