What are the rubber bungs you have used in the inlet and outlets, are they door stoppers and what blast set up have you, is it a cabinet or just outside, I can see the pack for the blast gun, I was looking at them today in machine mart, sorry to be nosey but interested in how you did it as I have to do mine in a couple of weeks.

the black rubber bungs came from ebay,I think they may be door stoppers, the orange ones are from the local home brew shop,I had the soda blasting professionally done locally

I did mine this way , using ally plate with a smear of silicone sealer against the intake face .
Paint still wet in the pic , it has dulled down nicely now

So it is ok to blast an engine with out stripping it then, I have read so many things saying dont do it, I did think as long as every orifice is sealed properly and blown off with compressed air before removing sealing plates etc that it should in theory be ok, is soda blasting the best way for DIY ?

I sandblasted mine but i did use a few rolls of both masking and duct tape to make sure no sand went where i didn't want any .
Some may frown on this method but as long as everywhere is sealed thoroughly i can't see an issue .
Yes it runs and no it doesn't smoke

soda is better than normal blasting grit as it is not as abrasive,as well as blocking the openings with the bungs and ally plate I filled the orifices with absorbent cloths to soak up any leaks. When I picked the engine up it just had a thin layer of soda dust on it,I jet washed it and then blew the water off with the compressor air line.I personally would not want to use grit as its so fine and abrasive,if you do use a normal blaster outside a cabinet the grit will go everywhere

I blasted an Aprillia race engine two weeks ago for a Friend of mine
using crushed glass and he lifted the head off it later and He said there was no
trace of any blasting grit
if You seal it up correctly it will be fine
