Chain tensioner

#33 PostAuthor: Magnum1 » Sat Jun 29, 2013 7:14 am

I'm finally getting round to sorting out the Magnum after a difficult period. Can anyone recommend a good solid type chain tensioner that mounts on the swingarm? I know some people used to use a skateboard wheel. Had a look on Ebay and they all look a bit flimsy.
Cheers,
Rod

Why don't you use the one made by Harris themselves. At least you'll know it made for the bike.

Not been there for a while, didn't even know they made one. Not shown on the website and I bet Lester wants a few bob for them. I'll ring them on Monday see what he says. Cheers.

It's a TR750 (wide), you can get them from Ragged for about 65.00. Go straight on the old Magnum's. I need to modify mine for more seat room, but my mate sprayed that one and I don't want to cut it up, so I got another last week. Here's the link;

Can you let me know how you get on please ? I'm after one for Horace and not having much luck really.

I was looking at a way of doing "it" differently - there was a pic in a 1980's Superbike of a bike that had a bracket with a small sprocket top and bottom near the swinging arm pivot that had the Chain running parallel so there was no tensioning problems. Never seen anything like it since though and cant find the picture either on the www.

Drawing below shows what I mean - it was described as keeing a constant tension on the chain what ever the position of the swinging arm:

Not seen that one Howie, but I can tell you my mate phoned Harris recently and got a blank, although he did not speak to Lester or Steve. There is an American company that do nice ones, bit pricey.

I am going to check out Eamon from SSMC, he's got a nice set up on his bike. Just need to find his contact details.

Also, Mistral used to make something, so I'll try Rob too.

Cheers,
Rod

I've done a couple. Skateboard wheels are cheap & come with needle roller bearings, but need turning down to make them narrow enough to run on the chain rollers;

The rest of the pics should speak for themselves....... Although next time I will fit a bearing at the 'pivot' point.
