Excellent result Ralph.

This has been a very entertaining and informative thread, thanks for taking the time to keep us all updated on the restoration. A couple of times I expected to see a picture of the bike in a skip but you kept at it and the bike is a credit to you.

I agree it needs to be on the club stand.

Excellent standard of engineering and you have inadvertently dealt with most of the future problems making for a reliable, upgraded, solid, workhorse to enjoy. Great stuff.

The bike that just keeps giving ... sorry that should have read TAKING!!!!!

Once I'd finished running her in and crying over the damaged side panel (fell off on way to Ace), I gave her a big handful and was disappointed by a spectacular misfire. I assumed that the carbs needed bigger mains and perhaps slightly bigger pilots. But decided to put it in the hands of reknowned Kwaka tuner Tim Blakemore of Drag racing fame. Took her up in the van smornin and sat her on the dyno.

Image

I wasn't interested in the power, though was please to see 89 gee gees at the back wheels, but wanted to find out what was causing the misfire. Fecking coils that's what!!!!! That'll be the brand new ones!!! :grr :grr

I ordered a set of Dyna Coils and leads when I got home. There was also a little bit of clutch slip at full power, so have ordered a set of plates and springs.

Tim said I probably will want to raise the needles another groove and possible open the pilots a small bit more, but said to sort the coils first and then look again. It's the best way I know of tuning a bike and it's not that expensive. This morning cost me thirty beer tokens and was worth ten times that to me - hope Tim doesn't read this

I'll have another dyno run when I have sorted the misfire to get the carburration spot on :D

If any one wants to dyno their bikes in the area here's his web site - http://www.timblakemoreracing.co.uk/ and yes he IS a Z1OC member :D When it comes to tuning Kwakas there's few in the world with as much knowledge and experience.

I've finally become completely disenchanted with this bike. I have just taken her for a fresh MOT, which she sailed through, but she is now up for sale! After changing the carb bodies, which sorted the main problem, she has now developed a minor misfire fire which isn't that noticeable, but you know I really can't be fucked anymore  I suspect that it's probably a bit of shit in a jet or a duff plug .... but I've really had enough ... I need the space !!!
