As i'm having a new paint job done for my Z650 by Simon (Flying Tiger) i thought some of you might be interested in the process of turning knackered old tank and panels like mine into lovely paint set.
I asked Si if could e-mail some pics of what doing a paint job entails.
First off the tank that i got at a VJMC auto jumble earlier this year for £30.00 quid...if i knew how bad it was i wouldn't have bothered
First off the it had so many dents under the black paint...which Si has ringed, also the seem along the bottom as been welded (badly) and after the tank was blasted lots of pin holes were found
Then on Friday i get a call from Si saying he's found another problem with the tank...when he pressure testing the tank he could hear a hissing sound...it turns out that someone had used a self tapping screw to hold one the tank badges and it's gone straight though to inside of the tank
Anyway here's some pics of the tank so far...

Next is the side panels and tail piece...one of the side panels someone tried to remove the old paint with some paint stripper and gouged the plastic...you should always get plastics vapour blasted to remove old paint.
This panel also had a crack by the bottom lug...it is a weak spot on Z650 panels...as i'm sure some of you know.
This was repaired by Simon
The tail piece and other panel, i took to Cox's and had them blasted...so no problems there
