Do you know what fittings are on your oil cooler & take off's? As what I've bought may not be right for you.

After a lot of dithering around (was gonna say ummin' & arrin', but I've been a proper ditherer
) I've decided which route the motor's gonna take. Surprisingly enough it ain't the 'budget' option.
I had thought about fitting a Unitrac (Lightweight/fast spinning) crank & having the kickstart style cases machined by Debben so the hyvo chain can be used, but then I'd need to find pistons to suit the 18mm gudgeon pin, which would probably need me to source a Unitrac head....... & they're like rocking horse poo. So I decided to work with what I actually had...... Which is the Z900 motor already fitted, a very clean & unmolested looking Z1000A2 motor & a Z1000J motor.
In short, I've decided to use the 900 crankcases (cos the engine No. is right for the build), a set of 1015 barrels bored to take a set of MTC 1075cc pistons, a 'J' head, machined to take an APE cam chain idler adapter, topped of with a set of Andrews/PSP 3X cams.
Last night I pulled the 'J' head....
All looked good and clean on initial inspection....... I briefly wondered if it had ever been opened up before....... I didn't have to wonder long
The shim sizes however were encouraging.....
Tonight I've finished stripping the head & on initial inspection it needs three cam cap thread repairs & an exhaust stud thread repair....... Oh and valve guides...... Yep, there's a big lump missing
I hope to get this cleaned up & deliver it to Buzzard next week where he can assess any additional work, along with the three angle cut valves & seats.

Update on the head is that I have stripped, degreased & blasted it & after repairing three cam cap threads, last week delivered it to Buzzard at the Buzzworks.
Buzzard will fit new guides, re-cut three angle valve seats, clearance the head for me high lift cams & fit an APE cam chain idler, before rebuilding it with new APE stainless valves & APE HD springs.
Had a box of goodies delivered today from Jeff at Z1 enterprises.
Excellent service as ever from Jeff
Sad thing is it took twice as long to get to me once it arrived in this country, than it took to cross the Atlantic.

Not too much to report of late, had a couple more deliveries from Japan & the US.
Headlamps have had a lot of my attention recently. I'd originally planned/hoped to fit some dished Cibie 5 3/4" headlamps into triumph shells....... They won't fit.
Plan 'B' was to fit a pair of replica Cibie 5 3/4" headlamps.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221368423532
Whilst being well made, with reflector units that I could interchange with my Cibie units, they're just too big overall.....
So on to plan 'C', which is a pair of these babies...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121491316412
These seem to be fairly well made with a good finish & are about the same diameter as the Triumph units (but without the look
). For me it's a good balance between of modern style, but the old twin headlamp endurance look.
I had always planned to use the original Triumph headlamp mount, mounted to the headstock with some additional aluminium billet. This brings with it two problems.
1. It won't look particularly factory, custom or trick.
2. The headlamps have to be mounted lower & further forward to clear the clutch perch and master cylinder.
So plan C(1) is to mount them from the forks (and get someone else to sort it out)
That person being Mike at Full Metal Ornament!
I sent him a very basic sketch of what I wanted......
He came back with exactly what I needed......
Two options on the pinch bolts. I've opted for the inside 'clean' look, as there will already be plenty going on with the yokes.
Lastly, just need to appologise to Sanderz, who had campaigned for me to hang the oil cooler under the headlamps....... Soz Buddy, it'll be going under the tank for now.

Currently suffering from a severe lack of motivation,
but have sorted out my oil cooler.
Originally I found these 'Hel' oil cooler mounts on ebay & thought I'd save myself some work.......... Wrong!
The mounting holes/slots don't quite line up with the meaty parts on the gusset under the tank, so I made my own.
Originally I had planned to fit a 13 row cooler, but didn't want the hoses coming out of the bottom of it, or wrapped around the side of the block.
Using a 10 row means I can route the lines up under the tank & behind the motor.
Cooler is rubber mounted, top & bottom using r/c model engine mounts. Hopefully I'll find a bit more motivation tomorrow to machine some proper spacers to fit between the top & bottom side mounts on the cooler.

These were delivered today
So it seemed rude not to go and try 'em out.
I was a bit nervous I may have got my 'offsets' wrong, but they worked perfectly.
Now that the cooler is mounted, there is just a little bracing to sort & a side panel lug to fabricate & I can strip it all down & send it of for powdercoating. I'll feel I've turned a corner then.

Thank's for the positive comments.
Ruffle, clocks will be 'modern & funky'.
I can't believe it's almost a year ago I bought a set of these at Shepton Mallet.
